I am looking to find a place where I can purchase chicory seeds. My plot that I have has a mix of clover and some other seeds and Chicory. The deer have always liked the chicory plants. They pull it up by the roots

I would like to plant a large plot of just chicory and set the camera up on it.

Thanks Dan,

I tried the local feed stores and they could not help me. I will try the web site and see what I can come up with. The deer in my area (Hunting Club) love the chicory. I had some of the plants reseed from last year. The deer eat all of the leaves or they just pull it up by the roots.

I will let you know the results.

That link brought me to seedland.com They have chicory for sale. I have an email into them on some temperature questions.

I purchased a three pound bag of chicory seed from Tecomate seed company. The deer prefer chicory over the landino clover that I mixed it with. I planted the chicory in March in NY state.

Nelbosco,

What was the price of your 3 lb bag. How did the deer like it. I had planted some clover plus as an extra to my food plot last year and the deer at it up. The chicory is coming back again this year and the deer are pulling it out by the roots.

I plant about 9 pounds of the tecomate chicory every year for the last 3 years. They like it better than clover and it last all year long. Is excellant in the late summer when everything is burnt up it still has good growth. This is my main stay in my foodplots. My summer plots i plant in milo, iron & clay cowpeas, catjang, blackeyed peas, millet, white and brown sorghum, alyce clover. this is and excellant mix. I brushhog this in late aug. leaving some strips about 50 to 70 ft. wide, then no-till drill wheat, elbon rye,alfalfa,4 dif. clovers, turnips, rape, brassias, and buffet ryegrass. first week in sept. This works very well in my area.

PNTFRMR,

Does your chicory come back every year. I planted some clover plus and it is coming back on my plot and the deer are clipping the leave off at ground level.

I would like to plant something different at my plot. Something know one else has in the club. Something to really draw the deer in.

I already have plots with a mix of Wheat, rye, beans, red clover, triange, clover and white tail clover. So far so good with that mix. I also added a bag or two of Biologic clover plus.

Yes it comes back every year now about 5 years. I have one field that has about 10 acres in chicory now and adding to it every year. I have had excellant results from the tecomate chicory. Actually the chicory grows year round hear in southern okla.

Thanks for the infomation. I found a 3 lb bag of Tecomatem Chicory at the feed store by the camp. It ran $30 a bag. It though it was a little expensive but deer hunting is a little expensive with all of the extra gear I seem to need.

Club dues, out of state licence, 4 wheel ATV, Trailer to stay in at the camp, year round electic bills, Food plot seed, fertilizer, Tractor cost, disk cost, dozer to clear plots cost, a coupe of digital cams in the woods-----Wait $30 is cheap.

Thanks for the infomation.

Hunter,

I paid $25 dollars for the 3 lb. bag at the Cabelas store in PA. This is my first year planting and the deer have eaten it to the ground. I believe it should come back next year. The chicory is similar to dandeloin so I am hoping it spreads like it, the only problem is that the deer never give it a chance to flower. In the spring I am planning on protecting my new plantings until they mature. Some of the plants did flower but the deer ate the flowers before I could protect them. BTW the flowers of chicory are a purplish-blue color.
