Looking at new optics. Saw some pretty strong recommendations for the Pentax, for the money. Now money is important as there are many items i need. I would spend the extra on the Zeiss, the older model, for $699 if it seemed to be worth it.

I don't even think that you can compare the two. It's not that Pentax is bad - they're some great binocs - but you can't compare them to the Zeiss glass. If you can swing the cash, you won't be disappointed... at all.

Ziess will give you a lifetime of great viewing. It's the type of glass that you can hand down to the next generation.

All really great glass is worth the extra money. Save until you can afford the pair you want. You only have to do it once in your'e life.

I have the Pentax WPs 8x42 and my brother has the Zeiss 8x56. We have spent hours viewing thru both of them. We cannot tell the difference between the two in hunting situations. The only noticeable difference are, with the Zeiss you can view in the middle of the night. His Zeiss is much bigger and heavier. And the cost was more than double. Needless to say, my brother is not all that excited about them anymore when we go out together. Oh, there is no doubt that the Zeiss are a lifetime investment. But whose to say the Pentax wont last. For the money and the weight difference, I will take that chance.

I've owned both. There's absolutley no comparison. Look through glass from Japan or Germany. Zeiss are a far better glass. The reason why they are heavier is because they have more & higher quality glass, which increases resolution and clarity in ALL conditions. I've looked through both and there is a difference, especially in low light conditions. Furthermore, when you glass for hours on end your head will feel the difference. For $699.99 they are the best bino around. Just my opinion.
