I'll let ya know when I receive my D70.
I want the speed and options a good 35mm has, but in digital format with the ability to swap lenses.
The D70 is going to replace my 35mm Maxxum and a P32 that's going back in it's trailcam case.

I used to have a Canon G2 and was very pleased with it at 4 mp. It stoped powering up so I sent it in thru Bestbuy's service plan and the camera got lost. They refunded my original purchase price and I picked up the Canon G6, a 7.1 mp and love it! I can't say enough about it. Quick on the picture take and the clearity and colors are amazing!
For me, it was all about the ability to control shutter/aperture. More so that you can with a p&s. Being able to underexpose or overexpose in certain situations is very helpful. Also being able to control iso to a higher degree.
Another feature is the amount of fps. I already know that 4fps is not fast enough and 8fps would just be great! But that is a few dollars down the road.
Lenses! Ah yes many choices to burn a hole in you pocket. Being able to adjust to different lighting situations and being able to extend beyond the power of a 10x optical zoom is becoming addicting.

The more quality the camera, the more you have to concentrate on the quality of your work. Simply pointing and shooting just isn't good enough any more. You start thinking about all the settings before you shoot, even with a digital.
I'll have to add more as I think of more, but for me I will never go back to p&s. You do impress people when they have their p&s cams out and you walk up with a backpack full of lenses, most bigger than the camera.

I got my camera (D70 kit) and already I'm a victim of lense lust. I picked up an 80-200 F/2.8 and am I glad I did. The SB800 is on it's way too. Now that I'm in debt by quite a bit, I think I'll stop...for now.

I was looking for shutter speed. How long it took to take the actual picture once you pressed the button. Also how clear was the entire picture, not just the center. Some less expensive models will blur the outer edges of the pictures. I really like the video mode and use it often. The ability to add a couple different lens is a big plus as well. Avoid the AA battery type camera's and go for a lithium type battery as they will typically last longer. A hotshoe for an external flash is a must since most on board flashes are only out to about 12-14 feet. For wildlife photos look to be able to turn the sound off and shutter sound as well.
Originally the Canon G2 did this and now the G6 surpass's my expectations.

No since there is still an "Auto" setting on there so you can be lazy if you wish and still use it as a P & S like my wife does.

Absolutely! The picture quality is much more enhanced as anything that does an automatic type thing can only go so far but the trained eye can take a great picture and make it better with a few adjustments.
