"Hit one?"

With a car? Pork bugers, eh?

I'll be heading out that way sometime soon. How's the water level at Nacimiento? Last trip was around November and parts of the river bed were still very dry.

I'll be looking forward to the FHL reports after they get back from Prez-day holiday (I can't think off the top of my head when the next 3-day weekend @ FHL will be).

Boar Tracks it was hunters zip this weekend. The weather seemed perfect, although there was a full moon. It had rained before the weekend and rained Saturday night. From what I heard the only pigs were sighted in TA 11.

I was in TA 30 and saw lots of old sign, but no pigs and nothing fresh.

I did check out that area you told me about and it seems the pigs did not stick around.

All and all it was a good weekend for my wife and I.

There is some more information about the trip on the pinned section under Jesses Hunting trips under FHL Presidents weekend.

Thanks again.

Well guys,

I just got back to the grindstone at work after my trip up to FHL and like B in SD said "the weather was perfect except for the full moon and a little rain saturday nite. And again as he said the only sign I saw also was in TA30.
To bad I didn't run into William. Anyway I say some couple day old rooting over there and some scat along with some tracks, but nothing fresh. I humped by butt off and only saw two different groups of deer, all does. One group of four that went up a hill about 75 yards from me. And another small little herd of 9 deer way over by the back fence line after I had been there and hiked about four other big hills back towards the Jolon Rd. side and looked back to see those deer just grazing and looking at me like "We know you can't shoot us --- We're not in season this time of year".

I checked out areas 25, 8 & 16 and only found a few more older tracks in 16. Also saw a herd of elk over on the 15/16 border. Herd some turkeys in 16 and quail too, but no pigs.

All and all it was a nice trip and good scouting time but no harvest. Look forward to going again with all this scouting done I know where I return to next time.

Would be nice to hear of some sucess up there recently thou!!

I was there on 2-15-03, I thought we were going to kill one all morning. We snuck along on fresh tracks all morning and then came across one lion kill after another until we counted 6. I have hunted that country all my life and that boys and girls is a bunch of lion killed deer. Needless to say we never saw a deer alive, cant understand that, but there was lots of fresh hog sign and quackers and geese.

Big Bubba Daddy was stalked by a cougar in the NE edge of TA 7 a few months back when we were up there. Lions seems to be moving in. Plenty of groceries for them there.

I used to work at Hearst castle doing historical restoration. I was building an 8 ft cyclone security fence in case patty H. came by with a bomb one year and spent a lot of time in the woods there. It was not uncommon to see audads, mouflons, tahr goats, elk, hogs, zebra and some of the nicest pacific bucks you have ever seen. Let me know when you even see a deer ther now. You reliaze that as the crow flies or should I say the lion sneaks that FHL is just over the hill from the castle. I told John at the fort that we saw 6 kills and he said he has seen a big cat there 3 times now. An adult cat is good for one deer a week, times 52 a year, it doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure this out. When checking out the lion kills I noticed that each kill was identical to the other which would lead one to believe it was the same cat. Hmmm.

Now that you mention it I believe I saw some cat tracks over in TA-30 also on the trail of one set of those hog tracks I had seen. And the more I think of it I saw just the remains of a deer lower leg portion over in TA-16 by a gully covered by some heavy brush ( covering the gully that is). Which made me think predator for a sec, but I was thinking mostly pig sign at the time.

Like Jesse says plenty of groceries, but also plenty of groceries (acorns) for the prey too. So everybody can be fat and happy except me. Have got to improve my timing!! Like be there specifically when the game is there and be able to put the cross hairs on them.

Hunted this weekend 2-22 & 2-23. I was in TA24 on Saturday and TA29 on Sunday. Not much in TA24 except yahoos blaring their truck radios and somebody's car Alarm going off for about 10 minutes

TA29 had some nice fresh rooting but we couldn't seem to get on the hogs. Don't think anyone bagged a piggy this weekend, but I could be wrong. Lots of Elk in TA24!
