Well, I had a good weekend about as good as it gets for upste NY anyways. Here's a pic of my son picking up a nice 5 point side that checks in with a 25" beam. The snow had come down a lot yesterday and my son went with me for a quick look in my best spot. I took friday off and found a pretty, medium side off an 8 point and was happy. When I spotted this one I knew it was a good one and I asked my son to do the honors---about a 3 lb shed with short-ish points but really nice mass and a 25" beam. The pedicle is very large--I'm guessing a 4.5 yr old out of a hard-hunted area. I'll try to post a few more pics tonight.

Deershed, why don't you update us on your total number of sheds picked up so far, including what your sons have found? You gotta be pushing your personal best don't you? I'll have to admit, I havn't really completely worked my two best areas all out yet due to snow but I've got 7 now including three pretty nices ones and that beautiful, heavy hunk of bone we got today. It's amazing, this area is hunted pretty darned good and I had not seen this buck. If the other side is the same, he'd go about 140" with what looks like an approx 20" spread. I've got my work cut out for me---here's the challenge. The shed was found in an area the deer were not using much, if at all during most of the winter. I'm pretty safe in saying he may have dropped early, like around late December or January when the deer were able to get to the soybeans and hayfield that are immediately adjacent to where we found the shed. Most of the herd was cooped up by heavy snow most of january and all of February until just recently. I have to really think and perhaps concentrate my search more in the areas they were using at that time. I

Shag-you can't compare numbers from one area to another.Us to trying to compare our numbers against each other would be like me comparing with BCBOYS up in Canada.A shed hunter is only as good as the area he's searching. Some areas just don't have the sheds to be found.I look in an area that has alot of buck that make it though the season.
Don't get the wrong impression,I work my butt off to find the sheds I do find.
<

There's alot of other competetion and you still have to figure out where the sheds are.The sheds we found yesterday were from a new area I found off the beaten path.My regular spots have pretty much been searched so now it's time to find those little pockets back out of the way.
The two older boys have only gone twice and each of them have found 3 each. The little guy and I put our sheds together and have 41 after yesterday.
This is all of them so far except the shed from yesterday.

Deershed.....an outstanding collection for one season. I see a striking similarilty in many of the sheds, the form and shape of many of those sides look like they've got common bloodlines, don't you think? I'm all revved up to go out and find the other side of the large 5 point side I got. It's kinda like Christmas.

Congrats to your son on finding a very nice shed and I hope you find the match.

deershed
Nice collection for the year and congrats to all the sheds. Would be nice if all areas were the same as Canada, Iowa, Kansas and other great areas for big sheds and a very healthy buck ratio. I don't live in one of those areas so any shed is a great find for us.

TJF-Thanks and Welcome to the boards!!
Don't worry about Shag finding that other side,he'll find it.He has a nose for finding those sets.
I would love to shed hunt an area with a real deer herd.Maybe one day.I'd be running though the woods like a little kid hunting easter eggs.

135, look at the bottom of Shag's post, there's a link you can click to see the picture. It says Shed Picture.
It's a good one! Hopefully he found the other side!
