Has anyone hunted feral pigs and/or deer in the Stanislaus County Frank Raines Park Area? Frank Raines Park is located off of I-5, accross from Patterson. You take Del Puerto Canyon Road until you reach the park.

I heard about that place a while back, they were thinking of opening in to hunting but didn't think they did. Is it open to hunting now?

mel, i think the place is open for deer/pig hunting during deer hunting season only. $15 permit needed for hunting and is issued on first come first serve. 20 ppl max during the weekdays and 20 ppl max during the weekend. worth a look next year since the july '06 11k acre fire came close to it.

Actually I called them asking that question, because their site said archery and general A zone. They said they follow state DFG seasons. I told them that wild pig was open all year through DFG, they said OK, come get a permitt and go hunting.

We drove the park with some friends last April. It's a pretty neat place. The only thing that was a little different to me was the motorcycles, quads and trucks all take the same trails. It made for some interesting top of hill and corner experiences. There's also a really rocky creek where people go and break lots of stuff on their trucks and generally have what some call a good time. I saw deer there, but again that was April.

I looked into this place last year. I was told the hunting for deer/pig was only allowed during the A zone deer period and it was by permit only. If that has changed that is a good thing. I do know a fire went through that general area over the summer but I am not sure if it hit the park area or not. Lastly, definitely get a map because the area you are allowed to hunt is not the area where the offroad park is. If you are heading east on Del Puerto Canyon Rd. the access to the hunting area is east of the offroad park/campground area. Go to the Stanislaus County website and there is all the information you need regarding this hunt. The hunt area is actually called the Minniear Day Use area and accessed by foot. Im in Livermore myself and have thought about hitting this place a few times but never went through with it. I also believe you have to drive to the county seat ( Modesto ) to obtain your permit. They wouldnt do it over the phone/fax when I asked. Good luck.

The reason I brought up the subject of hunting Frank Raines Park is that my wife and I bought 10 acres in the area. Our property corners the Stanislaus County Minnier Day Use area. According to topographical maps and property lot assessors maps, my property over looks all of Stanislaus County hunting property. I could easilly glass the entire hills and valleys for hogs/deer. I have gated access to the area through a private road that leads to the far end of the hunting area. The only problem is that you can only access the property via a 4x4 vehicle. At the moment, I have no 4x4, but would accept any offers to go back there in a 4x4. My plan is to use a GPS unit to plot the corners of my property, as well as, go hunting. Perhaps, even set up an archery only range. So far, I haven't heard of anyone being successfull hunting deer or hogs. If anyone has any information, please post the information on this forum.

I will call the office again today to confirm that the season is open. CSA, I may be able to drive you around for a day, maybe we can bring the rifles and hope something pops out. Just an FYI, if and when you hunt your property, if you venture onto the county hunting property you will need a permitt. Where are you located? I'm in Stockton, shoot me an email.

Once I get confirmation on the dates i'll add a post to this topic.

Ok, well I guess yesterday I was talking to someone who didn't know what they were talking about. I called again today, and yes, it's only open during the Acrhery and General "A zone" season for both deer and pig. Kind of a bummer, now I guess I have to go to Lake Sonoma instead

CSA, Im from Livermore, close to Frank Raines Park as the crow flys but still a little drive, and if you dont find anyone with a 4x4 I would help you out. I know that area is pretty steep. Do you know the road is like? I would imagine you have been up there already with someone. Is the road overgrown or just rocky and bumpy?? Email me and let me know if I can help.
