Frazier Park Wild Pigs..... Yep it's true

there is one opening on the 138 right before quail lake maybe a few hundred feet before you reach the lake... they can cross through there... only reason I'm saying this is because I've seen pigs on the southside of 138

Yep, there have been pigs on the south side of 138 for over 20 years, but there has never been a huntable population.

And now the crowd will gather...haha

Yeah, but that crowd will soon die out, as it usually does.

The fact is that the Mountain Enterprise, will print pretty much anything sent to them; and over the years, I've read about pigs being all over that area, Frazier Mnt, Alamo... Tejon happens to have great habitat. Fort Tejon Park, on the west side of the 5, has good habitat, but that good habitat is tiny compared to the needs of pigs. Marginal habitat exists around Frazier High School, but again, it just won't support any real numbers of pigs, numbers that would actually allow them to become established. Could a few pigs survive on the west side, sure, if they can avoid the predators, but I just don't see there being any real numbers of pigs, until you begin to get to the rolling and steep oaks, near and around the 33 and 166, and on the Bakersfield side of the NF.

Some gal totaled her car hitting a pig crossing 138 not too long ago.

That would be interesting .... I've seen a couple idiots hunt on the 138... no joke ... For the record the places in D11 I'm talking about are a hit and miss kind of hunt... Just carry a pig tag

Other than Antarctica and the north pole wild pigs are not only found there they are multiplying by alarming rates. Those pigs could have been decendants of herds brought in by William Randolf Hearst. Its my understanding that you dont start seeing pigs in an urban environment until the area is well populated by them.

my buddy's grandmother gave me permission to run after them nearby at Gorman. there are LOTS of hogs ransacking her peach orchard. it is a long drive for me, and timing my arrival with the nomadic hogs as been problematic. i need to camp out for a few days to get one..they are everywhere, and there is a small swamp with heavy over growth on her property. if i could get one of those game cameras that emailed me pics, i could probably time my arrival better.

i've been there three times, and every time has been, "they were everywhere YESTERDAY"..

the hogs on tejon are from an old game ranch that had a fire and fence fell releasing them... that info is from one of the farm hands that has been on tejon for 36 yrs

I was just told the story this weekend. I will not give names, but here is the real scoop. The pigs are originally from a cattle ranch that is still around here today. One of the family members brought the pigs here so rich business guys in LA could come hunt them at the ranch and the family could make some extra money around the ranch. There was a big fire. One of the fire fighters was driving a bulldozer to help cut a fire brake in a effort to contain the blaze. While he was doing his job, he ran over a bunch of fence and that set the pigs free. From there they have spread all over the place over the many years since they got out.

Its neat to hear the story of how this all started. I had been told about the pigs before but only how they got here. It was not till this weekend that I learned of the downed fence and the escape of the hogs. I would guess they would have got out some day any how, but real cool to hear the story first hand.

my cousin just got back Tuesday and they had a rough go of it.

He has a torn MCL so they stuck to the roads. He saw some hogs on the hillside below Winters and a couple in Oso.

said there was a bunch of people up Bear trap and Ghegis. He said it reminded him of NASCAR with everyone on a continuous loop.

that's a good story. Its cool they got that guy and locked him up. Part of the story is a little off. The elk are very much around BVS still. I see them all the time. Many days you will see a group of 5 bulls just sitting in the tall grass by some trees. I also run in to 20-30 elk up high on the way to the shooting range. We have lots of game all over the valley and they are not hard to find. If anyone ever wants to go see them and take some pics, just let me know. There is no hunting in the valley but there is 27k acres of land to glass and track some nice game.

Is his meniscus healing? Got a brace on it or something? When I tore my ACL in half it took many many months to heal unfortunately. Hope he has a better fate.

Pigs are dangerous. One pig got me speeding on I-5 SB between Frazier Mtn. exit & Templin Highway. They shoot their radar on you in a black & white blinds. I'm glad I have my pig tags. (License & Insurance) Be very careful out there.ig-laughing:ig-laughing:

Lol. I have had a few run ins with the black and white pigs. The cool part is most of them are real nice guys and don't like to give tickets to Military guys or USMC brats as is the case for me. Just be polite and 9 out of 10 times they send you on your way. If you have a Purple Heart license plate like the Lt. Col , they just pull up next to you and wave a hand to slow down.
