I haven't hunted there, but my best friend is stationed at Peterson and we've talked about hunting mule deer there. It requires hiking in so you should be prepared for that. I'm sure elk are on the base at some time or another, but my guess is, very late season.

You should also look into hunting at the Academy if you want to hunt deer. They used to have an archery program.

Breck, You may hit up COHunter, he might be able to help.

Is your son looking to hunt on base or off? I may be able to offer some advice. Let me know and I'll shoot you an email.

I'm asking for myself, he won't have much time to hunt. I'd like to hunt when I go visit him.

Fort Carson is a big place and it's hard to narrow down the areas to hunt. The best way to do so is by putting leather to the ground and getting some exercise. Those hills are no joke! Also, I highly recommend http://www.g2outdoors.net They have digital maps of Fort Carson that you can use on your smart phone. It has saved me numerous times from getting lost. If you plan to hunt on Fort Carson you NEED this map!
