The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is offering a free hunter safety course in Jefferson County.

The course will be at the Beau Turner Youth Conservation Center, 9194 S. Jefferson Highway in Monticello. Instruction will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 17 and 1 - 5 p.m. July 18.

Students who have taken the Internet course and wish to complete the classroom portion must bring the online completion report and attend only the July 18 class from 1-6 p.m.

Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Students should bring a pencil and paper with them to take notes.

Anyone born on or after June 1, 1975, must take the hunter safety course before purchasing a Florida hunting license. The FWC course satisfies hunter-safety training requirements for all states and Canadian provinces.

To get to the Beau Turner Youth Conservation Center from Interstate 10, take Exit 225 (U.S. 19) in Jefferson County and go south for 4.2 miles. The center will be on your right.

From U.S. 27, turn north onto U.S. 19 in Jefferson County and go approximately 1/3 of a mile; look for the center on your left.
