Here is a review on my Alpen binoculars after using them several times in the field.

At first glance the Alpen SE 10x42 binoculars look very rugged with their green rubber coating. In addition to the rugged looks, the rubber shell has some anatomical features that make holding them very comfortable as well as attached covers for both the objective and occular lenses that proved very effective at keeping out dust and dirt.
My first glance through them was in low light and I was suprised at the brightness of the image. It actually seemed brighter through the binoculars than with the naked eye. While on a deer hunt I watched some chipmunks with them and was actually able to focus on individual hairs in their fur coat. This past weekend at Camp Roberts I did some star gazing and was impressed with their ability to focus on individual stars and planets. I got a great look at the nebula in Orion. In full sun the image is very crisp and clear. The multi coated optics affectively filter out UV rays and eliminate glare. The screw up eye cups make looking through them for extended periods of time comfortable and when screwed down using them with glasses or sunglasses is easy. My eyes were able to stay relaxed after looking through them off and on for 2 to 3 hours.
I wasn't able to test their waterproofness since I didn't get rained on, but if they leak they have a lifetime repair or replacement warranty.
I was able to get them at Turner's Outdoors for $100 bucks on sale. I have seen them on line for $215. I would recommend these binoculars for someone who wants a great pair of glasses for a reasonable price.

Features:

Rubber armored
Nitrogen filled
Water proof
Multi coated optics
bak4 roof prism design
limited lifetime warranty

enjoy
