Well, I called B&H today and placed my order!
<
After renting the 100-400L and reading several reviews of numerous lenses I decided to go with the Canon glass. I can't wait to get out there and do some shooting with it, hopefully it will come next week before my trip up the California coast to Monterey.

This lens should do me very nicely for wildlife!

Congratulation on the new lens, wish it were me picking one up like it for my D-70. Jump on highway 1 at cambria and go up the coast to Monterey that way, that is possibly the most gorgeous piece of coast line in the country.

sweet, which other lenses do you have? Just the kit lens? or did you ramp up on a few others?

I bought the D-70 kit, also have the 28-80 and the 50mm@1.8, the 50mm is almost a must have have in any ones bag. I.m thing in terms of a longer lens with vibration stability but will have to budget for it as I go, this photography hobby is almost as expensive as guns.

It's an addiction

I bought a Sigma 500m F4.5 for my D70 after being unsatisfied with the reach of the Nikon 80-200 F2.8D. Gets awfully expensive.

Yow, thats some serious cash!

That Prime must take some sweet pics though!

In my current bag is the "kit" 18-55mm, 50 1.8(looking for a 1.4) and the Tamron 75-300(that will probably go on the chopping block once I get the 100-400L).

In the not to distant future is either Canon 100 2.8Macro or Sigma 105 2.8Macro, the Canon 24-70L, 1.4TC, 70-200mm 2.8(don't know which brand yet)...
Ah the list could go on forever.

I'd love to get one of those long primes after my camera starts making some money for me!

The UPS man tried to deliver my package for the second time in two days and was unsuccesful. My wife had to go pick some one up at the airport today and of course thats when the UPS mas tried to make the delivery. So I decided to take the scenic route home in hopes of seeing that little brown truck. Just about to my house and I look down a side street and there it is! I make a U-turn and pull up and say "I think you have a package for me!" Sure enough, theres my little box!

Oh the anticipation is finally over. Now if it would just stop raining here in San Diego. Of course I'm headed up the California Coast to Monterey for the weekend, So I'm hoping for a little sunshine up the coast!

Now it's time to start making a list for my next purchase. I'm thinking about a macro or WA lens.

Did you ever look into the Bigma (Sigma 50-500)? I've been looking into it to get a little more reach than I have with my Sigma 70-200/2.8. Might opt for the 2.0 teleconvertor instead.

Congrats on your new lens. Should pay itself off with some awesome photo's. I am also looking for a new lens for my rebel, something that will shoot sports.

Looks to me you like Casting Crowns, good group.

TN, yes I did look at the Bigma as an option. I opted for the Canon because of the IS mainly. I know that sigma has an image stabilized lens, but knowing the quality of Canon L glass I opted for it instead. Next I'll add the 1.4TC and reach the 560mm.

Ridn, Thanks. That lens is very nice and hopefully it will be on a 1D some day. For sports the 100-400 would be ok in outdoor with plenty of light but indoor wouldn't cut it. My next zoom might be 70-200 f/2.8 IS.
Yes, I do like Casting Crowns. I originally bought the cd because it was produced by Steven Curtis Chapman(my favorite artist) and Mark Miller(from Sawyer Brown) and figured they can't be all that bad. I'm very happy with the cd and look forward to their next release.

BTW, I just ordered a Sigma 105 f/2.8 EX DG Macro

Looking forward to taking some cool pics with that.
