Hello again. Well after some great feedback I'm still debating on the zeiss diafuns (thats OK it will still be a few weeks before I have the money) I agree that the 10x42 pentax DCF's have poor edge quality, on the other hand the 8x42's are great, but I live in CO and hunt in pretty open country so I would like a 10 power.

I went and looked through another handful pieces of glass and was really impressed with the nikon monarchs 10x42's. They were very sharp and I think the 42mm objective will be great in low light, and they are only 6 ounces heavier than the diafuns. Anyone out there with experience using them. For that matter any other suggestions on good glass in the 200-400$ range. Sorry to be asking around again but this is a big purchase for me and I just want to be confident I've looked through everything. Thanks

Youngtrout,
One thing that I would suggest is to go to www.eagleoptics.com and look at some of their lines. Their Ranger line is manufactured for them by Celestron. If there is a Wild Birds Unlimited store near you, stop by and they sell the eagle optics line and you could look through them. I recently purchased these: http://www.eagleoptics.com/search.asp?q=ra...r+10x50&pid=750 from them. I have been very happy with them so far.

Is it Zeiss or Swarvoski(sp?) that has binoculars that you can add an eyepice that turns it into a spotting scope? I would look into those. You can kill two birds with one stone. I will check into what mag. I seen those in and let you know for sure.

Bubba,
Zeiss has a 3x magnifier
Swarovski has a 2x or 2.5x magnifier
Eagle Optics has a 2.5x magnifier for some of their models.

Check into Sightron (www.sightron.com) if you want a good optic at reasonablle price. Great warranty too. The warranty is as Good as or Better than Leupold. Quality may not be as good, but as I said, just check them out. MSRP on waterproof s2 models are 12x42 is 163.99. 10x42 is 151.99. (midway is about 60 bucks less for each)
S3 models are nitrogen charged and waterproof. 10x42 msrp 648.99. (midway is 489.99) .
I have looked at a spotting scope from them, and was impressed. I called them and emailed several times to try to find local dealers, but they told me they are having a hard time finding sales reps in the Southwest. I am going to end up ordering from Midway I think.

If you can find a dealer, you might want to compare them.

Good Luck!

Youngtrout, I recently purchased the newly upgraded Bushnell Legends 8x42's w/PC-3 phase coating, and they're the best optics for the price. I compared them to my hunting buddies 8x40 Nikon Monarks, and the Legends are way sharper, clearer, and brighter. The Legends have Bak-4 prisms, fully multi-coated, water and fog proof (nitrogen purged), rainguard coating, and PC-3 phase coating.

I was going to buy the Pentax 8x42's, but decided to save some money and bought the Legends, and am happy I did.

Check out this link, it's the best comparitive site out there.

Thanks, betterviewdesired is a great site for binocs, I looked through the pentax 8x42's and they are the best 8x binocs for the money. I was just not impressed with the 10x42's edge clarity. Today I went and purchased the nikon monarch 10x42's. Took another look through them and I like the field of view better than the diafuns, not too much heavier than the diafuns and with a better strap, At least in sunlight I could not see any difference in the glass

Ordered them online for 250.00$ (with shipping) not bad, I'll post again when I get a little field experience with them. Thanks everybody!
