Going down to King City

My friend and I are scheduling a hog hunt for the third weekend in March. We thought we would go with Nessen Schmidt out of King City. Has anyone here used him or heard anything about his service? It is going to be $450.00 for a two day hunt and he claims most guys get their pig the first day. We are going to head down Friday afternoon and pray it does'nt rain too hard. Wish us luck, Bob

You will BOTH get Pigs. I have not hunted with his outfit YET!! I have heard nothing but success when going with him from many people around. I know he has access to 3-4 ranches and at least 2 ALWAYS have pigs on them. Let us know how everything went when you get back. Happy hunting!!

My uncles have hunted pig with him for years (12+) , and have never had anything but great things to say. About ten years ago I went on a quail hunt with him. Great guy. You'll have fun. He knows how to deal with hogs and people. Enjoy!

I've been involved in some large group hunts with Nes. 11 for 11 one year and 13 for 12 the next. His guides are the hardest working group of guys I've ever met. They're ranchers for a living and there's no BS. The early morning ride in the back of the truck is REAL cold. Depending on which ranch you get on, you have a real good chance of seeing a heard of elk. The quail are everywhere. It's heaven up there. Enjoy the hunt!

I was going to try and book a hunt in March myself. I am a rookie at this. Since the one picture shows dogs, does Nessen use them to hunt, or just track wounded pigs. I am not judgemental at all, just not interested in using dogs on this hunt. If anyone can throw out other names of guides they have used and were happy with in the greater Paso area, for about $500 or under for 2 days, please share.

I've seen Nes' crew use the dogs on two of my three hunts with him. Twice it was to chase down and stop a wounded hog and once it was a last ditch effort to get a hog for a guy who had missed something like nine shots in two days ( yeah, he got one).

I think they'd rather have you plug the hog from a successful stalk. Once those dogs are loose, they just a keep runnin'. And it ain't you or me looking for them after dark either.

We never had to use the dogs. I shot my first pig not a half hour gettin there, and my second was almost as fast. My brother though is a whole nother story!!!
