Goose Pond photo contest runs until July 15

11/9/07

Attention amateur photographers: For a chance to have your prize-winning photo used in a calendar that will broaden awareness of the natural delights and diversity of Goose Pond Fish and Wildlife Area, start shooting now.

July 15 is the deadline for submitting a maximum of three photos taken at Goose Pond over the last two years. Suggested subjects include landscapes, seasons, activities, flora and
fauna.

Photo entries must be submitted electronically to goosepondphoto@yahoo.com, with the following included in the e-mail: name of photographer, mailing address, phone number, e-mail address, and number of photos attached.

Each photo must be accompanied by a caption with the photographer's name and a number identification (e.g., "1.3" would indicate that a photo would be the first of three photos submitted).

The contest is open to all ages, as long as the person is not a judge for the contest and is not a professional, which is defined as someone who has a tax ID number specifically for income from photography.

A panel of Friends of Goose Pond members and photographers from surrounding areas will judge photo entries and select winners. Judging criteria will include technical expertise, originality/creativity, interest and photo's ability to be reproduced for publication.

Winners will be notified by phone or e-mail during or before August 2008.

Further details include the following:

- Receipt of electronic entry with attached photo(s) is considered release and consent for Friends of Goose Pond to publish photo(s) for calendar, public display or any other promotional purposes. There is no compensation for use in the calendar.

- Entries can be in color or black and white, and must be at least 350 dpi; all photos must be submitted in jpeg format. Maximum file size per photo attachment is 5.5 megs.

- Only limited image modifications are permitted. Manipulation should only be used to sharpen or produce a more natural looking photograph. Cropping is allowed but any other color modifications or the addition of any elements not existing in the original scene will not be allowed.

- Finalists will be notified and required to submit their photos in an approximate 8"X10" matted format (longest side of photo not to exceed 12") so that judges can see what the photos will actually look like in a paper printed format. Matted photos may be used in a public display event.

- By virtue of making a submission, entrants agree to abide by the contest rules and provisions.
