I was given a HP PhotoSmart 315 digi cam. It came with no software or USB cable. I bought a cable off of ebay and was told I could download the software and driver off of HP website.

Went to the site and it looks like I'll have to buy the software. The cam can use ArcSoft software...which I have on my PC already from another cam.

So how do I get my PC to recognize the new cam? Or will I have to buy the software to get the driver for it?

I would just get a card reader and install and use that. I have a HP c-618 and can download with the cable but don't bother anymore.

I agree with WildBird on using the reader...I haven't had to use mine yet but the programs that come with the camera leave a lot to be desired.....The camedia software that comes with the Olympus cameras is too slow and bothersome to work with. I just download all my cameras into one photo program and it works fast.
