Well we got drawn for Utah antlerless elk in unit 542 South slope,East Yellowstone.Season dates 11/11-12/31

This will be the first elk hunt for my brother, dad and I. We are pretty much clueless on where to go or how to hunt it.What is the terrain like?  How will the hunting be?

We would just like to have a good hunt and hopefully bring some meat home. Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated.

Well let me be the first to congratulate you, your brother and your father!!!

I have also put in for the Utah antlerless draw so hopefully I will have some good news when I get home.

Sorry I can't be of any help with the zone that you are hunting, I'm familier with some of the areas in the central and southern part of the state.  If this is your first elk hunt?  You guys will have a great time.  What I have noticed about elk is that they will be as high as the snow will allow.

Good luck!!!

Congrats on getting drawn.  I have been going to CO for a 6 or 7 years.  I don't know anything about hunting in Uath.  As far as just elk hunting, get into the best shape that you can.  Also, while you are out there, make sure that you eat alot & drink a lot of water.  Try to keep off of carbonated drinks & caffine in coffee or tea.  They can give you problems at altitude.  My dad has had problems with caffine in the past.  I have taken a cow with a bow.  Last year I was about to call in my dad's first elk.

It was a cow.  I have a few runnin's with some nice bulls, but have not been able to get a shot that I felt confident enough to take.  Two of them were atleast 5 or 6-pointers.  It is just awesome being out there in God's country.  Up at 10,000+ ft., you find out real quick, how small a part of the universe we really are.  I hope you get one.  Good Luck & Hunt Safe.

Thanks for the help guys,

Lankyman-thanks for the tips.I know from experience about altitude sickness,I got it when I was 10 or 11 years old.My grandpa and I were climbing Mt. Adams in Washington,we were close to the top when I got a terrible headache, followed by diseyness and then all I could see was black. It was pretty scary. It's a good thing my grandpa was in good enough shape to get me to a lower elevation in a hurry.
