As stated before you'd be suprised how much of that weight is in the guts. I know the feeling of trying to drag one and it gets old pretty fast. My last one was about 175 pounds but I'm 125 so that didn't work to well
. At least you weren't to far from your truck!
Thats a huge boar, maybe you might wanna shoot a little smaller one next time?
Now that's a big hog. That's about as big as any I've ever seen, and I spend quite a bit of time down in southern Monterey and northern SLO counties on and around cattle ranches. They can get really darn big.
The biggest I've shot was about 200lbs, and that seemed plenty large at the time. Even that 200lber didn't taste very good. Now the only hogs I shoot are for the table, so I purposely target small boars and dry sows in the 80-110 range. It is really amazing what a difference size and feed can make on the flavor of a hog. The last one I shot (end of September 08) was small boar of about 110lbs. It had been feeding on acorns for the past couple of weeks. Best tasting hog I've ever had, hands down.
Now that is a hog you will remember for some time to come, and as the others said, have a hard time topping. So I guess you can say you were broken in by a good one! Congrats and best wishes on the years to come.
Wow. I would have hate to have heard the story if he would have reached the rancher before you put him down. Great story. Post a picture of the headmount and skull when it is done.
No doubt. That's a great story and a massive boar. I'd venture to say he was all of 350 with guts. Dayyum! I'd turn that whole thing into chorizo and Italian sausage.
