I put my grandfather in for the draws in several states. I never get drawn but he has had a couple good tags. He drew a NV elk tag this year. He (we) will be hunting 111-115 early. Any suggestions for getting a great bull for my 75 year old grandfather?

Good luck this year,

DD

I hunted the 111-115 late season last year....Saw tons of bulls...most of the good ones were all broken up....I missed a 320 class bull...saw others that would score higher if they had all their points....I was with a guide in the Shell Creek range....Pretty steep country as you start getting up in the mountains from the sage flats...The groups of bulls were in the high country...The raghorns and cows were lower and more accessible...It depends on what he is looking for...Since this will most likely be his last time hunting elk in Nevada, if he can afford it, he should hire a guide......Good luck to him.....

I've hunted that area the last two years. It seems that the early hunt can be challenging if there isn't any weather to push them around. Make sure to invest in good optics, both spotting scopes and binos. You will find that most people are out in the field at first light glassing for elk, and then deciding if they want to make a stalk. The area gets a lot of pressure, and it helps to get away from everyone else, or to go where there are no tracks. You will find that the elk will hold really tight in the trees, and you will find them in small openings. Practice with your weapon of choice cause you may have to shoot fairly long shots in the 300 to 400 yard range. A lot of the people stay in town at motels, since the hunting areas are an hour or less away.

Good Luck
