Hey all,
First i want to tell everyone congrats on all the shed pics! I enjoy lookin' at all of them just don't have the time to reply to all of them! Congrats!
Anyways heres a pic of a set of elk sheds we found while elk hunting this year. I was hiking in some pretty high country looking for elk when I came into this opening and right away spotted what i thought was a nice elk shed on the opposite hill. As i got closer i knew I was wrong, it was from a big bull. It was a very heavy 6pt and was at about 9,000' up which is pretty high for elk sheds. I would of never thought of finding an elk shed that high up. Anyways i ended up finding another 6pt and also a 5 pt elk shed while i looked for the match but never found the match. I knew deep in my heart someone else had already found it. Our camp had heard that another camp found a big bull shed on this mountain and i just knew it was the match.
It took a couple weeks but i tracked down the guy who found the big elk shed and guess what, it was a match. A part of me didn't want it to be cuz i wanted to keep my side, but there was no denying it. I gave the guy the side i found (the one in my left hand) because I have a rule when I shed hunt, who ever finds the first gets the match. Even though i don't know the guy i felt it was still the right thing to do. He plans on getting them mounted, should turn out nice.
whew, i just wrote a book, heres a pic of the match set:
After some measuring that elk shed was the 2nd biggest elk antler i've ever found, man do i miss it lol.
Heres a pic of the biggest i've ever found, same length of mainbeam as the ones above but longer points:
Thanks for lookin'
