Success from Grizzly Island. Myself and our very own member Mike (Planetcat) teamed up to get Mike's son Matt his very first elk. We shared an incredible day of elk hunting today. The bulls are in heavy rut and were firing off all over the refuge. Elk were everywhere but skittish as you can imagine. After a couple blown stalks, we managed to take both of these big beautiful cows out of the same herd. Seeing the huge bulls of Grizzly Island and being able to take a cow with new friends is a memory I will cherish forever. Way to go Matt. View attachment 88655 View attachment 88656

Thanks guys. Both cows were big for the species at over #420. They weigh every one before the hunter is allowed to start the dressing. I cut mine up today and just finished eating the first of her, a tenderloin, on the BBQ. It's delicious.

A big thanks from Matt and myself to Darren for his huge help in getting Matt this nice cow. A new hunting friend for us both, and great memories for a lifetime. Unfortunately, my GoPro didn't come through, and all I have is footage after the shot. Not sure what happened to all the footage beforehand, but at least it's etched in our heads. Sorry there's not much to share here on that front. And as a side note, although the property holds a lot of elk, the hunt is not a slam dunk by any means. Chasing them in the marsh and trying to sneak up to them through tullies, sawgrass, mud, mosquitos and a 20+ mph wind is not an easy feat. Really great shots by Darren and Matt shooting in that stuff.

Awesome! Congrats. I had a blast helping my dad get his bull there last year.
