Hi All,

Looking for some first hand advice on an out of state guided elk hunt for my family. My Dad, brothers, and myself would love to line something up for this Fall, assuming it's not too late. We're primarily interested in a meat hunt as opposed to a trophy hunt (bull or spike). There's a lot of options when searching online, and would love a point in the right direction with guides/lodges that you've had great experiences with - or know of. We would be rifle hunting, and have no preference points out of state. Something with nice accommodations, and a higher success rate.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Putnam

DR - Thanks for replying! I'm certainly aware that this will be an expensive hunt. We never do guided hunts, so are looking to treat ourselves on this one. Really looking for some recommendations. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Putnam

Dustin - Thanks so much for the info - I left a message for Marv. I'm hoping he still has some availability this year.

Any other recommendations welcome.

Thanks,
Putnam

I stayed at RV Robertsons place about 10 yrs ago. I don't know about him being a true cowboy but he's definitely a true character. He supposedly spent years living alone in the high country and becoming an elk "whisperer". He can make all kinds of elk sounds and calls using just his mouth and hands. Claims to have even called in bull elk to within hands reach and then killed them with a knife. But like you said, he's not a guide. When u stay at his ranch he just gives you "suggestions" on where and how to hunt the surrounding area.
When I went, the price was pretty cheap, and the food and lodgings were reasonably good for the price. But the hunting was not great. Out of about 25 or 30 guys who were staying at the ranch, I took the only bull elk in the group. And mine was just dumb luck. Might have just been a bad year as the weather was unseasonably warm.
