7mag...Seriously, you need to let this one die. The more you post on it, the worse it looks on you.

7-Mag I got to be careful,I am at 90% on the warn scale. You go on with your inflation rate talk! Upper
I've never understood how the warning thing works. I got my warnings because someone sent me a personal email asking for the email for a guide I know. Some warnings are obvious, but some posts get removed for no apparent reason. Some rants are allowed while other tame posts receive warnings. I even know some people who were kicked off here just for visiting another competing site.

I wish it was more clear cut so I knew what to avoid.

Agreed, at this point I think he is just "trolling" for a response.

"F" the private guides. Shouldnt we be more upset at the state parks system and open space preserve organization here in California taking over every damn piece of public land. Two areas where I used to hunt turkey are now considered a state park so that douchebags can bring in their RV's without worrying about me hunting. Now that place has become a haven for pigs and turkeys and you cant do anything about it. Then theres Henry Coe State Park. Sucking money out of the state because of its sheer size and the state goes and pays trappers to get rid of 5000 pigs!!! What the "f" man? Give back to the people who support public land and open it up two days a week for hunting. The five mushroom pickers who will be in the park on those days can go cry elsewhere.
As for the private guides being cheaper in the long run as opposed to public land hunts: Last year I decided to try a guided hunt. I left empty handed that day. Not a single pig, squeal, or opportunity. So the guide (who will remain nameless, but is on the DFG certified guide list and is promoted on this site) says I can hunt another day for half price. I say ok ill try it. Not a damn thing again. So I try another guided service. Again nothing. Not a squeal, no visuals, no opportunities. So I start talking to the guy abotu how if guides are gonna charge so much money they should atleast find a way for the hunter who is paying to get an opportunity or if no opportunity is presented let them hunt another day at no charge. So he decides to reply with, "well maybe youre just inexperienced as a hunter". WTF I had zero opportunites! Maybe if i had missed a shot or blew a stalk....

Oh man whatever. $1500 later, I just wont pay guides but they can charge whatever they want.

I have been on several guided hunts here in California for wild pigs. Is it overpriced? I think it really depends on what you get for your money...quantity and quality of game. Some guides are better than others and some have much better properties than others. The frustrating part is that you don't know what you have comitted to pay for until you get there in many cases. I think that part of the problem is the way that the state spends the money that they have. When I was in Washington state I noticed that the DFG put lots of money into stuff that enhanced hunting and fishing and therefore generated revenue though retention and recruitment of hunters. This state seems more focused on snowy plovers, condors and mountain lions.

I've paid for one pig hunt, and it was for three days. I got my pig on the second day, and tried for another...shoulda had it, but didn't take a long shot... I'm going on one of the JHO hunts next week in Sonoma County, and it only cost $400. My wife says that's expensive meat. She doesn't remember I spent $4k for my boat's motor, and $650 for the trolling motor, and who knows how much on bait... I'm deep into the woods, and have been out many times on Public Land, but occasionally, I like to bring home the bacon. I am going to be up there anyway, so the hunt is a side trip. I'm camping out, so there is no cost except for food. If I get a pig, it's a big bonus, and the rate of success is good on the place I'm going. If not, I meet a buncha guys I have a lot in common with, and I see if I can set up a hunt with some of them at a later date. I don't mind paying, when the hog is down. I shop around, and so far, I've found hunts for around $4oo are out there to be had. I think that's reasonable, and I know the guides work their tails off, and do a good job, so you'll come back again.
Give them some credit, even if Jesse says Chopper is rich, I think those were probably zirconiums on his cane, and he got the rest from a Halloween rental.
