I wanted to wish everyone a Happy Independence Day
<
What are you doing to celebrate?

Along with that, I thought I'd post a little story. This one is about a smart pig and a game cam. We don't use the infra-red cameras (just the regular flash ones) and none of the other hogs mind the flash at all. We have had them chew the lens hood off, but other than that, no problems. Except this one boar. He is just, well, annoyed with the camera being at his water hole. Every night he comes in to his water hole and drinks first. Then he promptly goes right to the camera and attacks it. Cracks me up. My daughter says we need to shoot him 'cause he screws up the rest of the photo opportunities on that camera. It's getting to be a war between her and this hog. She's probably right, but he is a pretty smart old boar and I had to give him credit.

Here he is on the trail to his water hole (the water hole is about 20 feet below the camera)...
[attachment=42895:attachment]

Here he is coming out of the water hole - he's got the camera in his sights...
[attachment=42896:attachment]

Attack is on...
[attachment=42897:attachment]

More attacks... (this whole deal takes about 5 minutes from start to finish)
[attachment=42898:attachment]

Heres the last image we're left with every night, poor camera - it loses every time

What's everyone doing for the Forth?

I thought I had only today and tomorrow off. Boss said yesterday, "See ya monday". Wow, 5 days off. Wish I'd have planned something now.

That's funny. I've had a few cams rubbed off of trees by hogs, but never deliberatly damaged.

We're having a small fish fry and BBQ here. Caught alot of tuna last week and still had some rockfish from last trip so I'm trying to empty the freezer a bit. We'll be up sometime mid-morning tomorrow. See ya then.

We're going to bbq with some friends. Cindy is making her famous beans and using chorizo I made from the Tejon piggie.

Have fun everyone and be safe!

Had a breakfast of eggs hash browns and venison sausage then up to the barn and worked the boy's in the arena. Had a 2 hr trail yesterday, to hot today. Not like the horses care. We'll go back to the barn for our regular 4th BBQ, wife makes the best deviled eggs and i'll grill a skirt steak and partake in the treats brought by the rest of the boarders. Irene and I are going to take the horses to Point Reyes this weekend and might recruit some fellow riders to join us.

Have a safe and sane 4th! sidepass

Thanks you guys-It's really good to hear from all of you & I'm glad you liked the pig story- LKN4HOG is right- I do believe piggie rambo is probably next on the "hit list", before he ruins my 400.00 leaf river game cam. I have to say that camera is virtually indestructible, the other ones (in the plastic boxes) would have been piggie toast weeks ago.

Ducslayer - We did get a really nice fat toad dry sow this last weekend- 220 + lbs- gawd she ought to be a good eater- she was really fat. Dry and not pregnant, just fat. The full moon was a challenge as usual
<
, but we had a really great time.
I'm looking forward to Matt's hunt- are you coming with?

Irish- we bought a .17, I'm thinking that Cait might enjoy shooting that nice little caliber on the squirrels. Then we'll put her on the .204. I'm really glad she likes it here though- please tell her hello from us
<
and we can't wait to have her back. Oh yeah, by the way, we miss you too.
<

Sounds like the rest of you (if you survive your children's antics tonight) have got the best of the best going on- PBRDOG you should have came here- it's only 107 degrees (YIKES) and we're hitting the coyotes & fishing starting tomorrow night. Your boss should be spanked.
<

Scott - See you guys tomorrow. Oh yeah, bring night crawlers- I think they have them at Bee Rock Store (little cute store next to the barley field). Supposed to be the ticket for the wife's bluegill (she'll probably pull in a 35 lb. striper on a 4 lb test and put us all to shame). Bring the turkey calls too. And the bag of tricks for the coyotes.

4th of July in your neck of the woods? In this heat? Hunting? Nope. I'd be down on the lake glassing for other game.

Sounds like everybody had a great one!

I'm up here in Portland, OR (actually Vancouver, WA) enjoying some pretty tasty wine, and a little exploration of one of my new favorite places.

Got a brand new rifle sitting in the safe when I get home, just waiting to get some pig blood on it, though! Never thought I'd be actually looking forward to getting home from a vacation.

Yeah, my next trick is to figure out how to shoot our lakeshore piggies while inner tubing on the lake. With the ice chest attached. It'd be cool, you could fish at the same time. And glass for other game...
