Just went online to purchase this year's Hawaii resident hunting license. It includes pig, mouflon sheep, most goat, wild bulls, all gamebirds [including fall turkey but excluding spring turkey], and peacock when there is a season for that. Total price? Ten bucks.

I should also mention that saltwater fishing requires no license for either resident or non-resident.

I'm driving up to the dry side of Mauna Kea after school. Will drive the roads looking for pigs and sheep. I'll be wearing my cast under my boot and using walking sticks. As long as I keep my walking to a minimum, I should be fine. Will report if anything happens.

Aloha.

Ten bucks total? Last year I paid $10 for the resident license, , plus $10 for the wildlife conservation stamp, plus $10 for the bird hunting stamp for a grand total of $30.00. I have not purchased a fiscal year 08/09 license yet, did the price go down? $30.00 is still a bargain. Doc if you ever come Oahu you'll have to pay the additional $5.00 for a freshwater fishing license so I can take you Peacock Bass fishing at Lake Wilson.

Uncle Ji:

The license is now 10 bucks. You no longer need a bird stamp or a conservation stamp.

Up on Mauna Kea yesterday evening the weather was cold and the terrain was as dry as a popcorn fart. Grass high and dry. Didn't see a single pig but a really nice mouflon ram ran right in front of my truck up on Skyline "Road." Followed it into the grassland but never saw it again. It was a beautiful buckskin color and had 3/4 curl horns.

Not many gamebirds around. I think the drought is causing problems for them.

Aloha for now.

Aloha Bruce, your info encouraged me to get my 2009 hunting license sooner than later, just got it online for $10.00.

I go in for my 3rd back surgery on October 23rd so that flushed bird season down the drain with minimum best case scenario of recuperation time being 3 months but this surgery is much more invasive than last, and last surgery I wore a aluminum cage for 6 months so 3 sounds extremely optimistic. I figure maybe get a pig hunt in before my surgery at least. Mahalo again for the info, I can maybe look forward to a late spring hunt on Big Island. You take care of that bum leg, don't aggravate the injury, let it heal up nice and we'll do a wild cattle hunt in the not too distant future.
