Heading to Benz ranch tomorrow night for a Monday-Tuesday hunt. Its my first ever reservation with WU so i'm really looking forward to it. Actually its my first time ever hunting private land in CA.

Archery hunting with my 10yo son in tow. Hopefully we'll see something. Any other WU members feel free to message me with any tips that might help :hog chewing:

I thought WU pig season opens with deer season. Did it not affect the Benz Ranch?

Cummings and Benz are currently open for the extended rifle pig season, i'm sure you can use rifle or bow. They close August 10th.

I really wanted to go last weekend but already had my reservation for this weekend at Twin Peaks. I had heard that Benz was not getting enough use and with no hunting on tejon right now they have been on the move so they did an extended rifle pig for two weeks.

I didnt see jack. But it was my first time on the property and I had a kid to contend with. If someone wants to go back before season ends let me know. I'd love to go again.

When I last hunted Benz, the only pigs we saw were the ones that came under the fence from the Cedar Canyon Ranch. The rain had washed a hole under the fence letting Cedar Canyon pigs come over. From the distance we can tell the Cedar Canyon owner was pretty pissed watching us picked on his trespassing pigs.

Oh yeh I saw some holes in that fence up near the ravine. My kid was a little creeped out by the bulls.

Was out at Benz ranch end of March. Got fogged out 2nd morning. No hogs in sight except for neighboring ranch to the west. Did see several turkeys wishing 20 yards but they haven’t opened the ranch to turkey hunting yet. Trying again next week. It’s a beautiful ranch and close enough to Orange County to make the trek. A lot of the Wilderness Unlimited ranches are in NorCal but a good bunch in SoCal

Going there this Tuesday. Caretaker was saying last time the hogs come out into the ravines between the ponds to dig up inverts/acorns/roots. In your experience could you tell me where you think the best place to start would be? I got blanked last time.

Yeh man I liked to stay close to the ponds. Stalk around the hills behind them. Not too far from the wateer. You can bet at dusk they will want to come get a drink. Obviously if they smell you there they wont though. They'd rather dehydrate to death than come to a threat.

I kind of likes any area between the ponds and the top of the hill behind them. The other side of that hill is Tejon ranch which borders the back of Benz.

Just got back. The kids had a blast. Caught a bunch of frogs, got to see a whole mess of deer, blasted some ground squirrels, and Jazmin the horse poked her head into our tent for a nose scratch. I got one evening to myself to go hunt. Glassed the hillside for a few hours right up to sunset and called it a day. No hogs in sight for me unfortunately but still had fun watching my boys run around.

Great pictures. Enjoy the children while they are young. You can’t spend too much time with them.

Well, just tried Benz Ranch again and also a few days at Cummings. Didn’t see any pig at either ranch. However, did come across this rattler that my buddy almost stepped on. We never tried snake before so we fried him up. Taste like microwaved chicken! LolF12109CF-8663-48A2-9170-D7F353629446.jpeg1952953C-C48D-443E-91B0-A136D0002AA5.png
