Anybody hunted the Golden Ram property at Hedgepeth Ranch? I have a chance to go pig hunting there anytime within the next couple months. Any info you can share would be appreciated. When is the best time of year, where do the pigs hang out? How's the population? Any help or advice will be appreciated.

NoCal,
I was out there at the beginning of the month and there were some pigs around. I didn’t see any large groups (1-5 per herd), but still saw a few. If you bow hunt the best time to go is during archery deer season and November 1st if you rifle hunt (opening day). They get pretty crafty once people start to hunt them. If you drive the roads and look for tracks you can find the areas they are currently frequenting. The pigs are all over the ranch at certain times and move around. If you get out early (before shooting light) often times you can hear them and close in. Good luck

Thanks for the info. I'm thinking of going the middle of December. How did you do in Nov?

NoCal,
I passed on a few the first two days with my bow for various reasons. On the third morning I shot a small (+/- 135 lbs) pig with my rifle for the freezer. Some of the members talk about the pig hunting really picking up around the same time as the Sacramento Sportsmen’s Expo, but I am not sure if this is for the increase in pig kills or the sales pitch though. There are pigs on the ranch year round and the ranch is so nice anytime you can get out there should be good
