Ok I'm really chomping at the bit to get a digital slr. I've narrowed it down to the Nikon D70 and Canon Rebel XT...since they are the closest to being in my budget
<
Anyways I'm torn between the two---I had bought the wife a Nikon N75 so we have a couple of lenses for the Nikon BUT I had the opportunity to use a buddies D70 with the lenses we had and was a little disappointed in the quality. I have however seen the quality that the D70 produces with some high quality glass..... I guess the question is would I be better off with the D70 since the Nikons can share lenses or should I take the Canon leap and get the 8 megapixels and start with new glass????????

And would you guys recommend the "kits" for the cameras or body only and some other lense to start with...thanks!!!

I would say that you can't go wrong with either Canon or Nikon. It all depends on the preference you have. You could get the Nikon and use your exesting lenses and add a quality piece of glass, or start from square one with the Canon.

If you do decide on the Canon, I would look at the 20D as well as the XT. Compare features on all three. See which features you think you will use the most.

I think that no matter what you decide, quality glass will produce good shots on either body.

sounds like you will be buying good glass regardless of which way you go.. if you stay with Nikon, you can also use it with the film body.

I just got the 20D and I opted to not get the kit lens. I just got the body and stepped up the lens. (24-70 2.4L)
