Gotta put away hunting gear, finish butchering, shut down the smoker, and get some work done... then I'll have time to finish that video.

In the meantime...

Hey, look at that handsome fella!

[attachment=52373:me_n_boar01.jpg]

Long story short, (if you really want the long story, it's on the HogBlog in two parts)... went out this past weekend to take some folks, including Holly (our own NorCal Cazadora) to chase pigs on some Golden Ram property.

First morning my new friend, Jim, managed to put the smackdown on a pretty nice boar... his first pig ever, and one heck of a way to start. Field dressed on the scale, it went 150lbs, and sported one real nice, 2"+ cutter. The other was broken off about an inch above the gum. Here's a photo taken by Holly, of Jim and his videographer, John and the boar. John filmed most of the hunt this weekend for their vlog, Hunting with Jim.

The rest of the day was pretty much a wash. Barley looks great down there, but the pigs just don't seem to be beating a path to the fields. Oh well.

I also had a standing invite to come help Michael Riddle cull a specific boar at his place, Native Hunt. Told him I couldn't make it because I had these other folks hunting with me, and he said, "bring them too!"

So Sunday morning, while I went with Michael to find the big euro (inside the high fence), Holly went with a couple of his guides out to see if they could find some ferals coming to the barley outside the fence.

When all was said and done, we had two pigs hanging in the cooler. Holly managed to smack a nice little meat pig, and I removed this nice, pure european boar from the gene pool. We estimated live weight at around 250, and while I failed to put a tape on the teeth, I'd say they're about two and a half inches. Michael will be doing a full-body mount to use at his show booth. Can't wait to see what that looks like when it's done.

For my part, I finally got the last of the meat cut and wrapped last night. The smoker ran full bore all night too, so I've got about 30lbs of smoked pork roasts and ham hocks.

Phil, why did he want the euro gone? Seems like those would be the genes he'd want to pass on.

Nate, this was in the fenced area where all he has is euros. This one had a trait Michael didn't like (the beginnings of a curly tail), and he wanted it out before it spread any more. Since he gets big bucks from the folks who want to come kill a pure euro, it doesn't go over so well if they see stuff like that. He doesn't really like to kill stuff anymore, so he called me to do the deed. He knows I like the meat and didn't want the trophy anyway, so it worked out just fine.

Hatchet, I still have two more tags, but no weekends left, dangit! Probably won't get back out until A-zone archery.

Which one? The hog or the hunter? I think they both look alike......hehe.

All kidding aside, congrats on that toothy thing.

Nah, the hog is definitely the best looking one in that picture. I'm OK with that.
