Anybody on here use hog calls much. If so, where do you learn how to use them? Are there any sites that have audio of what it should sound like?

Yes, I have used calls for pigs in the past. I have only been successful using a call once. Called in a group of 6 pigs. All pigs in group were small. I used a wild pig grunt call as well as a hog squealer. Never really could get the squealer to sound the way I believe a piglet sounds when squealing, but the grunt call has worked for me in the past. Its just one of those things where one day you may call in a good boar, the next day you wont. Its give or take, really depends on wether or not the pigs are willing or curious enough to respond.
As for how did I learn to use them? Trial and error. I just kept blowing air into it until i figured out the best ways to make certain sounds.
I just did a quick search on google and found http://beemp3.com/index.php?q=distress, its got one or two FREE downloads of wild pig distress and maybe a grunt sound.

A few months ago at Bryson Hesperia we tried a squeal call (primos I think) and it worked to bring in a couple hogs that we heard but couldnt get to because it was too thick. They came within about 10 yards, growled at us for a while then took off. It was so thick I could only make out the rear end and tail of one of them and did not get a shot opportunity.. but the call worked! A fast pace multiple squeel (sort of a cross between a normal pig squeal and a rabbit distress) is what did it.

Calls

Each time I have been on a bow hunt I have used them and it worked. Now when I say work I mean it brought them back arfter I took a shot at them as they were running away. We would only blow it for about 30 seconds after our shot to get them to slow down. In one hunt it brought back a pack of 12-20 hogs successfully 5 times over a course of 4 hours!!!! They never saw us each time and so I think it just peaked their interest to come back again thinking that we were pigs or some kind of animal so they thought they were "safe".

But I also agree with above. It might work on some pigs and not on others. It just might be right place right time. It might even be they don't care about the call and are heading your direction anyway. So in others words, just try it. Whats the worst that can happen.:bag-on-head:

i was thinking about trying one after I saw one at a gun store. very tough to hunt pigs mid-day when they are bedded in thick brush when solo hunting so i figure it might draw them out. glad to hear some of you are getting results as I was a little leary of them working. of course I could just go wack some yotes while I wait for dusk....

I have never called in a hog with one but i have used the grunt call to cover my noise while moving around. If i made a bunch of noise i would give a couple of grunts in hopes to cover up my human noise.
