Yesterday I went out to my property to check my cams and feeders. I always keep some kind of rifle in my truck for hogs and varmits and yesterday luckly I had the 45-70. I get about 100 yards from my feeder and I see this hog turn and walk away when he sees my truck. There is a little hill in between me and him so I keep driving fully expecting him to bolt. I get on top of the hill and he is standing there broadside about 50-60 yards from me. I reach in the back seat and pull out the 45-70 load one in the chamber as he starts walking away from me. I throw up the rifle bury the bead behind his sholder and BOOM!! He does a half turn (I think the energy of the bullet did it) and falls over dead in his tracks. After closer inspection I hit him about 2 inches high from where I was aiming. I gave the hog to a needy family in town and they were thrilled to have it.
I am a huge fan of the Hornady Lever Revolution 325 gr. bullets now. When i was sighting the 45-70 in with them they were about 2-3 inches higher than the standerd remington 300 gr. HP. I did lower it down some so it is right on at 100 yards but 2-3 inches high at 50 yards.
Here are the pictures. I cant get the auto timer to wait long enough for me to get behind it so it is just the pig and my rifle.
