Hey I am new to JHO. I am from Clovis, CA. I have hunted for hogs before but have not scored yet. I am hoping to get out in Jan. or Feb. on some public land. Above pine flat or on the west side in Clear creek area.
Any tips you guys may have will be appreciated. Is the hunting better on rainy/overcast days? Do I just cover ground till I get on some fresh sign or is there a better way to find them? What would you say is the typical range that hogs are shot at?
Thanks in advance for any help you may have.

Welcome Pacmule,
Do a search on this site, as there is more than enough information here for you. Jesse has done an excellent job, best site out there!!!!

Wild pigs are where you find them, when your luck is right, at any time of the year, usually best after some rain and the acorns are on the ground, next to impossible to find on "public land", keep marching till the sign is hot, they can be shot at 10 feet - 500 yds depending on your weapon of choice and skill...
Most important: Have a positive attitude and don't give up. No matter how much they are hunted, wild pigs keep expanding their range.

Good luck.

Pacmule, welcome to JHO. Pine Flat is a good area but the hogs tend to stay on private ranches and getting access can be difficult. Get a good map and try and stay to the south of the lake. I like to hunt that area this time of year as the sign is easier to follow with the wet conditions and the acorn crop has been pretty good this year. Easymoney hit it on the head as far as shots go but I would put the stalk on anything that falls outside your comfort zone before shooting. Just remember to keep the wind in your face and keep at it. Good luck, Brian (Fresno)

Welcome aboard, Pacmule. You can definitely find a ton of info about Clear Creek by doing a search on this list. Lots of discussion... but not too many success stories. Clear Creek is all about luck. Right time, right place... but the hogs are there.

Pine Flat is also mentioned several times on here.

You can only find them hogs if you get out and look for 'em. There are hogs in both places, so go get 'em!

I believe Clovishunter has a computer virus and is not reachable via the intranet. He may have a new system by now but I have not seen him post so my guess is he is out of comission.
