There's a herd of feral pigs there, but I was under the impression that most of the area was county parkland. Would be interesting to find out where public access would be.
For those who don't know where Mojave narrows is: Its in the Victorville/Hesperia area. San Bernardino has a large county park there.
Been hearing the rumors for years. A couple of years back they almost had a hunt (bow only) for hogs in the Santa Ana River drainage out towards Riverside. I heard it never made it off the ground. Lots of equestrians were getting challenged by hogs. Last season, a Matthews article mentioned a few hogs getting taken below the Lake Arrowhead area on the Deep Creek drainage area. Possibly they migrated up from the Narrows? I hope they multiply like flies!
I have heard of them too. I spoke to Andy Pauli the F&G biologist for that area and he said that they are farther north near Oro Grande. I have been down there and seen tracks but no pigs. It is a very small population. Good luck. Scott
My dad found a hog's lower jaw in the desert 1 mile outside Mojave. I had seen tracks that, in hindesight, could have been made by hogs. Nonetheless, the hog had recently died and been picked over.
I'm not sure exactly where the mojave narrows are but when I was lining in LA I did a little research on hogs around Lake Silverwood. I've got a small map of the area with a little scouting information on it. I spoke with one of the campground attendants and he said they get hogs through there every now and then. Let me know and I'll email you the specifics that I've got. It will at least give you an area to start looking.
Mojave and Mojave (River) Narrows are two seperate locations. The first being Mojave, the city. The latter being the Mojave River drainage through Victorville.
The pigs would stand a much better chance in the river drainage and could easily migrate from Silverwood north to the Narrows. If they are indeed present, I am suprised there are not more complaints around the lake.
One of the guys we do horse deals with gets sick of the high price of hay so he brings in an 18 wheeler of carrots and dumps them , he said he went out one evening to check the stock and there was a couple of huge hogs woofing down carrots , this guy told me he had a good hog ranch in parkfield and he wasnt telling a whopper , so who knows.
