I am being stationed down in San Diego for school and then to Pendelton. I am wondering where should I think about hunting pigs at in that area. I understand that VAFB is ok but not great and Camp Roberts is good but 7 hrs away. I am open to suggestions if you have any. I am willing to do the leg work when I get there its I would like to start narrowing it down now. I am also intrested in anything you have on deer. Thanks guys

Swift Shot, I'm in the navy stationed in San Diego and the two areas you have mentioned are about your best bets unless you want to spend money. Than you will have to travel anyways. As for deer hunting, Camp Pendelton has its fare herd of deer, but there are a few other local spots you can try. Good Luck to you and maybe one day we can get together and do some hunting.

No pigs that I know of in San Diego. I think there is a fenced ranch-type hunt in Riverside. But, not my style. The closest, and the best is Tejon Ranch. You can read all about it on this forum. It's only 3 1/2 hours from San Diego. Otherwise, like Minn. said, you're driving 8-10 hours.

Deer - you can hunt anywhere in the Cleveland National Forest, except private property. Watch out for Indian Land and Park areas. You need to get a map from the Forest Service, and just start scouting it out. The high desert areas are probably your most productive for rifle.

That ranch is in Cherry Valley in SB county. Pigs are not really wild. I wouldn't recommend you spend your money there. Unless you don't want a real hunt. Tejon is the best and closest if you can afford to go.
