My little brother and a couple of his buddies wanted to go hog hunting so I decided to come along and play guide/chaperone. We had a great time and the ranches were beautiful this time of year. The hilsides were bright green, almost looked like Ireland. Taylor (my bro) killed the biggest sow I have ever seen. It was every bit of 290 lbs. He made a great shot and double lunged it. He has quite the lucky streak going having killed 3 huge hogs in 3 shots over the last 3 trips. Richard then got his shot after the herd spooked and we caught up to them several ridges over. He took a really tough shot with the hog running flat out through brush about 125 yards out. Somehow he actually hit the thing. Took out most of one ham and all of both nuts on the poor boar. We bloodtrailed the thing about a mile before the dogs found the pig and Richard was able to end it with a shot to the dome. The boar wrecked 2 dogs in the process. It cut one dog's side open as he launched it through the air. And it bit another dogs foot. It was one mean boar, but I guess that is understandable with your nuts shot off. The next day we found a part of the original herd bedded down by a spring. All you could see was a couple ears above the grass. Zack had his crosshairs on the biggest set of ears. Then they stood up and there was a whole big group bedded down. His scope filled up with hog hair and he squeezed the trigger. The hogs bolted. One dropped with a perfect heart shot (the one he was aiming at) and another took off away from the group obviously crippled. The cripple needed a finisher but Zach got a 2 for 1. All in all a great time. Even though I never fired a shot. Can't wait to go again.
