Hog hunting

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey,
I'm planning to hunt hogs with my Super Red Hawk 44Mag.
And I was wanting to know what most of ya'll use for a good hog hunting load,in the 44mag.
I was thinking about a NOSLER PARTITION BULLET,or a full Metal Jacket.
Where I'll be hunting you can also use a Muzzlerloader. So I'll take my first shot will the Knight .50 cal.
I've got the Knight sighted in with the Barns 245 grain Spit-Fire MZ,for deer, with 150 grain charge.
Now for hogs, this might not be the best load. What do ya'll think???
Should I load the Knight up with a Nolser Partition also,or will the Barns bullet do the job? Thanks

Roger,

Do a search on this site and you'll find a ton of info about "best" round for hogs...whether it be from a rifle, handgun, bow, or smokepole.

Bottom line, if you shoot it well and it has the basics (penetration and retained energy), it'll do just fine. That said, don't use FMJ ammo for hunting, especially not for hunting big game. You aren't out to poke holes in them, you want to kill them.

If you go down and read in the handgun forum, you'll find that cast bullets get a lot of press. Personally, I've been pretty happy with the Hornady XTPs from my Blackhawk. But my brother dropped a nice hog with a plain ol' Remington 240gr soft point. So go figure.

Good luck on your search, and even better luck on your hunt.
