i would beg to difer and say summer time is the best..grain fields..and water drying up make it pretty easy to pattern hogs.. even scratch the grain fields and concentrate on "any' left over water source and you will find pigs..assuming they are in your area..my 2 cents...get some!
It all depends where your huntin. If yer a public land hunter than winter/rainy season is better cause the hogs will have feed everywhere and will spread out into public lands more. There are few resident hogs on your adverage public land compared to private farms or ranches. For hunting private land summer is usually better if you have crops/barley field or a permanent water source that will keep the hogs predictable. Cattle ranches have year round water or troughs. Plus they will be flaking the cattle when the ground gets thin. and the hogs wont be far from that either. Pretty much like hatchet said. Just know the land your hunting.
Had a couple follow up questions if you guys will indulge...
I know pig habitat is generally in the western half of CA (west of the 5 or so?), but I've also heard that closer to the coast is better. Is that part true? If so, why closer to the ocean?
Also for hatchet (or anyone else)... I know you hate copper, but you always seem to be using barnes. What's your take on the winchester/nosler e-tip? I haven't used it yet, but it seems like a synth tip would create better expansion than straight copper.
