Can anyone tell me any good Hog spots. I hunt FHL. Got a couple there but lately it's almost impossible. I just joined WU. Either a good WU property or a public land. If I don't get me a pig soon I'm going to give up pig hunting and take up ping pong.

Sevook,
Congratulations!! At least you got 2 pigs at FHL. I have been going there since 1988(took a break in 1990 to 1998) & I have not even seen a pig. Seen the pig gut piles of successful hunters in the hills of FHL but not one of mine yet. Patience & persistence is needed for public land hog hunting in Calif, or else it is pay to hunt. God Bless. larrysogla.

If you've killed pigs off of FHL, then you're way ahead of most hunters on public land. Your spot beats any of mine. I'd stick with it. Seriously, you're doing pretty good for public property hunting if you even see hogs, much less kill "a couple".

As far as WU properties, don't hunt 'em, so can't help there. The salesguy said they have lots of good properties, though, and some of the guys here have hunted there...

Can't help either on the WU properties, but I see that you live in Glendale (me too), I might be heading to FHL the first week of '05, you could join us if you like.

Sevook, I'm hunting private property with sign all around and yet to bag one on one particular property. I think they are transit beasts with no bedding areas that I can fine. There is , however; lots of rootingl. When the weather warms up, I'll hit it with a little more frequency than I have been. So hang in there, It'll happen

I don't know where your located, but as far as WU properties go, here's my list of favorites.

1) Hill Ranch
2) Gallatin
3) Spy Rock (if they still have it)
4) Los Gatos creek (never hunted it)
5) Rinconda (never hunted it)
6) Cummings ranch

If your from the south part of the state, then i'd probably go with Los Gatos creek, Cummings ranch and Rinconda. There's also Willow creek out of Holister, i've seen hogs there on more then one occasion. Theres several others, but these are the ones i'd suggest.

Someone else told me Riconda was a good hog bet. I don't know why people complain about FHL. It's always been good for me. Almost never came back empty. I either hunt 10-13 or 29 and 30. This last couple of times (more like several) I've come back empty because the people I hunted with didn't want to put in the extra effort. To get yourself a pig especially on public land you have to be willing to go where no one else will. Everyone just wanted to walk onto a hog and shoot it no one wanted to just sit and wait or do some seriouse walking. After 15 minutes they call it quits and start chasing quail.

The Twin Peaks Property would be my first choice in addition to Mel's suggestion on WU Properties. Good luck getting a reservation.

Thanks Rannie, it is really sweet of you to keep us posted on FHL happenings, especially with our beloved wild hogs. Really need a breath of fresh air in this mostly macho, male dominated forum. We appreciate your interest/concern on our hobby/sport. Much obliged. God Bless. larrysogla.
