Hog Weight/Girth CHart

Don't forget to weigh and measure the girth of your hog so we can get our weight/chart going. So far I jsut have one. 48 inches = 300 lbs on the hoof. Also weigh the hog after field dressing if you can so we can get an idea how much we lose in weight.

Measure the hog girth behind the front legs around the heart.

Jesse....if you would, please put out a reminder to do this next spring, or you'll be depending on my memory to help out. I hope to get a few pigs next Feb/March and will be glad to measure their girths and weigh them to add that to your chart. Another thought would be for someone who knows a guide real well to do this on a few pigs they take, as that might expedite this a little.

If you're measuring right under the front arms, isn't that the same place ladies measure for bra sizes? Let's see....a 48 at 300 lbs, yeah, that sounds about right (lol).

I will be sure to start measuring them. As I catch a couple every week, I should have quite a bit of data for you relatively soon.

How would you like it? I was going to send you an Excel spreadsheet with the data, but thought I might suggest that you pin a post to the hog forum as a reminder and an easy place to post the info.

Please let me know what you come up with.

Do you think it will make a difference measuring on the ground or hanging? Maybe we should indicate what position the pig was in when we give the data. Hope to contribute, only problem is that I don't have a scale to use out in the field before dressing.
