WOW I am still stoked from my first succesful big game hog hunt. Used my new 30o6,

I was real bummed because someone must have accidentally taken my clip last time out, had only one bullet in chamber.

Anyway it worked out perfect, got the boar through the heart!!! Never having seen em hit before or even at all for that matter. I was not sure I hit it the way it took off, did not get knocked back, make squeal, just hauled butt.

My ?? is how far can one go with a 180gr. core lock hole through its heart??

{Bullets are like women, you think you need many, but one is enough if you do it right. Ok you guys can edit, expand or flame on....}

Congrats Killzone. I don't know, how far can a boar go with a hole in its heart. You tell us. Did you take any pics? We need to see pics.

Hard to say cause boom put another 444 in it and it and a pistol shot to the mouth. So maybe some high timers need to chime in. Amazed he ran pretty good a short distance. We found the slug in the hide other side. Booms friend used the same bullet on a sow and it exited pulling out intestines. sow died at about 50yrds.

Great time!!!

Hey if someone calls you a hog, they might be trying to give ya a complement.

Pics are being sent to me by boomsplat, will post em.

Good hunting,

I can't really answer that as I have only killed one hog and have never seen any others killed other than on TV. I can only tell you that my sow with a 3 blade hole through it's heart ran 50 yards in a little less than 10 seconds before falling over.

I did see a hunting show where they used the new 50 cal Smith and Wesson handgun. Took 5 shots to put down the big boy and they looked like descent shots. He hardly even moved on a couple of them !!!!! Looked like a pretty tough critter to me.

You posting some pics.

All mine have dropped within 10 to 100 yards depend on shot placement, if you brake bone and hit vitels they will go down faster, I shot a 300+ lb boar with a 270 1 shot that went 10 yards walking and fell over it was a front shot through heart and travled all the way through his liver and exited his side, and another through both lungs with a 06 that went almost a 100 yards, a third big russian shot in texas with a 300 savage through both lungs it went less then 30 yards I put 3 rounds through it all within 6" of each other thing never ran just walked like it was not hit, unless you brake there spine you never know what there going to do after being hit, same goes for any BG animal

I shot a boar at about 200 yards with a 150 grain power point. That first shot hit him in the lower neck. After spinning a few times, he tried getting out of there, he was pretty much bled out by now. Second shot was a perfect heart lung. He fell after runnig another 50 yards. Heart and lungs were gone.

Up at Tejon last year. I shot a sow in the shoulder. SHe went down right away but took a few seconds before she stopped trying to get up and go.

They are tough.

Yeah, you hit the right spot and they can explode

My buck last fall went about 50 yards (closer) after being hit. Sometimes it take a little bit to cause lack of oxygen to the brain.

I centered the heart on a 180 lb boar a while back that was about 50-60 yards away. This was with a 165 Coreloct out of my 30-06. It still ran 70 or so yards before falling down. It ran full speed and then just crashed and skidded. It looked like a chicken with its head cut off. On another 120 lb hog I shot the heart out and it ran downhill for about 20 yards before falling. This was with a 180 gr Hornady round from my 30-06 and a 75 yard shot. And a last hog I shot at about 20 yards with my muzzleloader. That .54 cal, 430 gr. slug blew a hole through this 120 lb sow that you could see through. It actually blew a chunk of heart tissue about the size of a half dollar out the exit hole. That hog took one step and fell over. My buddy shot a smaller sow through the heart, 30-06 150 gr Hornady, from about 80 yards. It did about 6 or 7 circles in one place while squirting blood like a Rain Bird sprinkler. Then it fell over.

In summary, you just cant tell what they will do. There is only one absolute, you hit the heart and you will have a dead hog in short order. Some are just tougher than others.

My biggest pig was a 325 lb. boar. Shot him with a .270 w/ 150 gr. Win. 1X. He was only about 30yds. and I hit him high in the shoulder. Actually since he was so close it went clean through about 1 inch below the spine. He lunged forward ,dropped, all the while kicking and squeeling. Moved up and put a 2nd round in the base of the neck. Scared the hell out of me. Something that big, making all that noise just a few yards away. Last pig was a 130 lb. boar with a .300 Win. Mag. w/ 180gr power point. Put it into the base of his neck at about 80 yds. Dropped in his tracts. Same trip my buddy shot one with a 7mm Mag., 165gr. bullet. Hit it in the front shoulder and just ran away. Looked but never found.

I have had one heart shot boar drop like a sack of cement in just a few steps. He was just coming back up after going between the strands of a barbed wire fence. He went about 220 pounds. But I have also had heart-shot pigs run between 50 and 100 yards after the shot. This is from my experience either shooting or assisting other hunters on dozens of pigs. If they are already running, they go further based upon what I have seen.

I hit one behind the ears with my 30-06, and it dropped in it's tracks. Another was a lung shot and that sow ran for at least 150 yards before I hit it again in the spine. (Not to mention a running ham shot, dang it.) Another one, I hit at 10 yards with a .357. It wobbled around for about five minutes, and 100 yards, then I hit it in the neck with my -06 and it fell over dead. Another one, Oh, there is no other one. That's all of 'em. Oh, I hit a bear in the heart, and it did cartwheels down a mountain for 250 yards.

Pigs are tough. I sure like that neck shot though.

I've 2 heart-shots on pigs, 1 with an arrow, one with a rifle. The arrow-shot pig went 30 yards or less, the rifle shot pig about 60 yards.
