Hey guys I'm from Arizona and we are not so fortunate to have wild hogs (and Javalina don't count). The only game we can hunt year round is coyote (lots of fun) and rabbits. Is there any hog hunting in New Mexico (public or private)?

Also, I hunted Calf last year near Parkfield in July, and of course the hogs were heading for the brush even before sun up, and came out again early evening just before sun down.....the heat and hunting pressure must be the causes. Are there any states that have "seasons" on hogs so that they do not become nearly nocturnal?

Even my wife said that she enjoyed the trip but to her and me "hunting" is more than 40 minutes in the morning and another 40 before sun set.

Thanks guys and gals for any information.

I read this story about hunting in New Mexico, so I'd say that they've definitely got hogs out there.

I dunno, Vandal. I read the story too. 700 miles from Los Alamos, NM most likely puts them in another state.

Glenn,

You might check out Texas, where there aren't really any seasons OR shooting times. You can hunt all day AND all night if you want.

It's not just hunting pressure that makes hogs nocturnal, by the way. They're a lot like deer.

Temperatures/climate have a lot to do with it as well. At the same time, even in CA, if you want to hunt all day, you can certainly find places to do it, especially if you hunt by yourself. The guides like to do morning/evening hunts because it's easiest and most successful. That's what most clients want.

But nobody says you can't try to match your wits and stalking skills with hogs the same way you do with deer. Your success will drop off drastically, but you'll have some danged good hunts.

Good luck wherever you go.

at least once a year myself and a buddy load up the dogs and drive to Texas from santa cruz county. along the way we stop off of 40 in Arizona and visit and hunt hogs usually with success, Arizona hogs lack the Russian blood, they are large and wide across the rump, usually red or spotted, I have never caught a black hog in Arizona, New mexico has some good russian blood in most of the hogs I have caught there. but life in the deserts of Chavez county

is ruff for hogs and they move alot to find food. in four trips I caught 6 hogs in new mexico and 2 in Arizona personally and know of many many more.
I released all of the hogs after i caught them so I know there's some out there.
