I’ve learned a lot over the years about introducing people to hunting. Mostly what I’ve learned humans have already known about ourselves for a very long time . I introduced all my daughters and a few friends over the years . I won’t say it was a waste of time at least none them turned into Anti hunters. I had the extreme pleasure of going on a guided pig hunt this weekend with two people I consider nearest and dearest too my heart and also the only two I have mentored that have become my hunting buddies. My brother and my wife . After hunting big game for 35 years this was my first time being guided. Many reasons for this. I’m really a DIY person who takes great satisfaction from getting deer and pigs on my own . I’ve killed quite a few pigs over the years on private land I paid for access and 2 from FHL. I can’t even count how many hours I’ve spent on blm land trying to get a truly public pig lol. No luck and just don’t have time or energy for that anymore. my brother has hunted with me for years . My wife has always truly loved being outside and grew up fishing and camping. I slowly methodically brought her into hunting . starting with birds she has become hell on wheels with a scatter gun. Honesty the best natural shooter in our duck hunting group. Then we started slowly teaching her to shoot a rifle. Hunted public deer for three years and had one opportunity. To get her some experience I Set up this hog hunt 6 months ago . Lots of shooting and preparation since then. I was like a nervous Dad after we spotted some hogs 15 minutes before end of shooting light. my brother and I watched as my wife and the guide made the stalk in the distance it seemed like forever before the shot rang out and the solid hit echoed back to us . We watched excitedly chatting as the two made the trip across the the canyon to her first Big game animal. She made an excellent shot on a perfect 175lb healthy young boar . Anyway long story to say that I’m super proud of bringing them both into hunting and both made amazing shots. My brother made a 260 yd downhill moving shot that absolutely plowed a 230lb boar. Anyway be patient in bringing people into hunting. Make sure they have some opportunities!!! It’s really important wether young or old to actually Get a chance to harvest . even if that means saving your pennies and going on a hog hunt. Amazing weekend and experience . Time to get her on an x8 buck next
