Anyone hunted @ "Hogs Wild" pig ranch recently? I'm booked to hunt the archery side at the end of June. Just wondering where the pigs might be hanging out.
Yup,hunted at Larry's 7 or 8 times now.The pigs aint stupid. If it were me id set up over the pond below the bluff and sit tight thru the day, always a few stragglers looking for water that time of year.Early morning and evening hunts set up near the milkweed flat under a large oak tree near the falls. The hogs bed down high on the hills in the mananita patchs with digger pines during the day, thats a sure fire adrenalin rush if you dont mind crawling around in the pig tunnels on you knees!Kinda hard to nock an arrow though.Hope this helps you.
Shep is right on Bowhunter. I just hunted there last month. Bring a lot of water and exercise now. It is a blast, but some tough hills to get around. I brought my tree stand with me and set up just up the hill from the watering pond. The pigs will come down the mountain right before dark. you will either hear them coming down the mountain, or at the very latest, when they are around fifty yards away from you. The first night a group came by on the trot and they made a racket so I heard them coming down the mountain. The next night, a different group came by just meandering their way down to the pond and I didn't hear them until about 50 yards out. The milkweed Shep is talking about always see's some action everyday. Just down from there is a creek that gets pounded also. Here is a little hint for ya'. If you are feeling lazy come Saturday morning. Billy will take a truckload of hunters to the back 40 up top and drop them off. If you slip down by the creek and nestle in, when them other fella's start raising a fuss on the other side of the mountain, some of those pigs will come hauling butt over the top and down towards you and like to stop for some water. One of the guys that tagged out when I was up there did that. He has hunted there before. There are 2 ways to go up there. Hard charging and make your own action, or let the hard chargers stir up the pigs and intercept them. Either way, I garauntee you will at least see some pigs. Let me know how it turns out for ya'. I am heading back up there in September myself. Just remember, don't get too excited until you have a dead pig laying at your feet. I swear I hit my pig right where I needed too and I never found it. That happened to 3 of the 6 of us that stuck one. I would opt for the 2 pigs vice 1 just in case you don't find the first one. Because once you stick one, that is your pig whether or not you find it. Have fun.
