Thanks for chiming in Don, I have killed a whole battleship of black and white wild hogs but none of them were at Hogswild. The biggest reason I went is because you said it was on the level. I guided hog hunts when I was a kid and can tell you what they have going on is pure fun. If anything the hogs are too coyote. All I can say is if you dont like it , please dont go, I would hate to have someone be like that there and ruin all the fun.

Thanks for all the positive responses guys!

Yeah, Hogs Wild, is the real deal and Nextrodeo, you're right, the hogs in the archery preserve get hunted every weekend and they know how to play the game, my hat's off to anyone who can drag a 200 lber out of that back canyon. I've lucked out and taken probably 4 out of there in the 200+ range. It's a tough hunt for the big smart ones and even some of those 100 lbers are pretty squirrely, but I suppose if I had guys chasing me around every weekend, I'd either end up smarter or in the freezer.

And all this talk about black and whote hogs, got me to thinking and actually my best hog is a black and white feral russian cross off of Larry's 12,000 acre free-ranging lease. I think he went about 315-320 lbs and had broken tusks that both went nearly 4". He was a wild wooly beast that I stalked and shot from about 40 yards with my Desert Eagle Magnum. I shot him in January and wondered how much he would have weighed if I had shot him in July when the barley was up and the hogs had all that feed.

That's a great hunt out there and I'm probably going to set up and cater at least 4 hunts over there this year, mostly rifle guys and one archery hunt.

Good luck and keep chasin' them hogs guys!!!

Hey Don, I have a boy I was wanting to take and was wondering if Larry had any pricing for father and son hunts or youth hunts or something. He is 13, state champ bull rider, honor roll, and shoots trad bows, proud papa stuff ya know, being as you have set up some hunts in the past I thought you might know. thanks.

Nextrodeo,

He doesn't do much in the way of special pricing, it's pretty much a flat rate across the board.

The market will definitely bear the price, since most other outfits are still running a little pricier than Larry's.

I've actually been hunting public land a lot more and I must say, the pig hunting has gotten better in the last 5 years. I'm seeing hog sign in places where there used to be none. But if you don't have a packframe and a psycothic addiction to climbing mountains and thrashing through oceans of brush, a guy's better off investing in a quality hunt like Hogs Wild.

I just wanted to chime in with Don on this one, as I am his best albeit (non-paying) customer. When we as sportsmen/women are out hunting it is to put food on the table and to enjoy time in the outdoors with people we like being around. I am a little disheartened that there are several posts in this thread that seem to indicate how quick people are to malign an operation without actually having hunted there. OK, so the prices have gone up some from where they were, but what are your alternatives for a "fair chase" hunt? For me a ride out to public land on the coast, the cost of gas, food, lodging is going to run fairly close to what a weekend trip to Larry's place would cost with no guarantees that I will see a hog. The point? Before we discredit someone's operation, if you have the means, hunt it. If you don't like it, don't go back, there is plenty of public land for you to hunt, as well as other private ranches that are more costly. If you don't like the prices, take a look at what you spend in time, food, gas, and extras going to your favorite haunt and I bet they aren't that different.

Happy hunting,

John

I have hunted Hogs Wild and I even used to work for them (Hi Larry) and I can say it is a top notch outfit. And let me clear up any myths about that fenced 600 acres it is one tough SOB take it from somebody that used to walk the perimeter looking for holes in the fence. And you won't find any floppy eared domestic pigs. If you don't beleive me go on a hunt for yourself.

Welcome aborad OlJim. You've come to the best site on the WWW.

What is the cheapest guided hog hunt you guys have participated in? Was it worth it?

What's with all the of getting 'hung up' on black & white pigs with floppy ears. Pigs aren't native to the US! They were brought here and escaped and crossbred and are still breeding like rabbits. A SOW can have a litter of 4 and they can breed in 6 months. Take a look at these photos and you can see they come in all shapes and colors. I'm a member on a 6,300 acre lease here in Central Florida and we take a good 100 every year and aren't even making a dent in the population. I take about a dozen each year myself. The amount of damage they can do to a pasture is incredible. And by the way, anything over 140 lbs, it's best to have a helpful buddy close by and anything over 175 it's best to have a strong helpful buddy real close by.

Welcome to the site OlJim!

Speaking of colored hogs, the last tusker I killed was a red head. Hey, my wife is a red head too.

May be something Freudian going on here?

Hey Grunthunter, that hog on the 25th looks like he's eating out of your hand

I've hunted Hogs Wilds the past three years. got one with a rifle and lost one I hit with my bow last year. The archery hunt is tough, but pure hunting. That fenced area is tough. You really have to want to hunt. I really enjoyed myself, and so did everyone else that was hunting. I did not hear a single complaint, only heard people wanting to come back again. As far as the pigs being domestic, no way. I had one of the so called "domestic" hogs charge me the first year. The tusk looked pretty real to me! forunately I juked when he jived!

The pigs get hunted all the time, so they know all the tricks and are smart. If I had to say anything bad about the place, It would only be about the archery side. The pigs seemed to be smaller last year (only 100-125 lbs) compared to the first year i was there when I saw several that were 200-300 lbs. But Larry and his son Jereme, were great people and the hunt was worth it the price. I think everyone thats gets upset, should look at other prices today, most are about the same or more. Well thats my 2 cents
