I asked this same question in the Varmint Hunting forum.....but , it looks like varmit hunters aren't familiar with this round.....how about you guys ?

Does anyone have any experience with the Hornady A-Max bullet on varmints ?
I have a .223 with a 1 in 9 twist barel. I have much better groups with the larger / heavier rounds......but I
love to see the explosive power of the V-Max. The bullets seem to have a similar construction......but do they perform the same ?

Any input would be appreciated.

I have used the 75 gr A-Max on ground squirrels through my 1 in 8 twist barreled AR15. I cart wheeled the little varmints in the air in a pink cloud at 175 yards. The bullets just exploded the critters just like any good varmint bullet.

Hi Disc

I've used the A Max bullets for several years as my varmint bullet of choice. I use the 52gr in my 22/250's, the 75gr in my 22/6mm Ackley. the 105gr in my 243 Ackley and 6mm Ackley, 140gr in my 6.5/06, 162gr in my 7mm-08 and 7mm Mag, and the 178gr A Max in my 300 Win Mag. I wish they had a A Max for the 338 Lapua I'm having built.

I hope this answers your questions, The Big Dog, Ed Coffey
