I have this posted in the medim bore section but have had only one reply (which was very helpful) and few hits...so can some of you give some answers to the following? Thanks!!!

What has been you expericences with Hornady's factory rifle ammunition? Consistant? Accurate? Preformance on game? If the rounds are good, should I try the standard velocity, or go with the light mag production? I have never shot any and was wondering if they are worth a try? Thanks!!!

great stuff. i used to shoot cor-lokt's and they dont compare. i shoot a 06 with the 165 gr SST light magnums. i shot a doe at 320 yards yes they do dammage but thats wut i want i want a bullet that will cause as much dammage as possible to get as close to and instant death as possible and thats wut thye did. as far as accuracy... wel lets just say i reaload and i still cant get a load as acutate as they were but ill get there or close to it because i dont feel like spending 30 bucks a box as much as i shoot. but yea they are a aweosme factory loaded round to shoot. oh and i was shooting a remington 7600 and was gettin 2 in groups at 150 yards... and thats pretty damn good for a pump.

I have used the .30-06 165 gr. and 150 gr Light Magnums on several occasions and they are great. Near .300 WinMag ballistics with little increase in felt recoil, excellent expansion and weight retention. If you want a little more oomph out of an '06, I highly recommend them.

I load 165 gr and 150 gr SST's. My 700 BDL likes them.

I see by your screen name, you're a afn of the '06, but you don't say what cartridge you are considering the light magnum for. If it is the '06, the gains in velocity are minimal, but if the cost is they same, go for it. Let's face it, the standard '06 has been taking all game available in North America for 100 years in it's standard loading. Hornady has a solid reputation, and alot of LE agencies use their match ammo for the tactical rifles.

I handload and don't buy too much factory ammo, but I did buy 500 of their .500 S&W Magnum cases and have had good results with them. I think Hornadys stuff is better than most, and still maintains a reasonable cost on there products. They seem to really be getting into factory ammo production, as well as producing new rounds like the .17 HMR and .17 Mach II. They also have the .450 Marlin, .480 Ruger, .204 Ruger, and even the .458 Lott. They've come a long way since Joyce Hornady started it all back in the 40's. Bill T.

I shoot the 17HMR ammo in VMAX and they have been within 20fps through a chronograph. The little pills are very accurate though they lose a lot of steam after 150yrds or so.

By the way I just wanted to mention that depeding on what you are shooting the light mags may not be suitable. According to the Hornady website the 270lightweight mags are not recommended for use in a semi-autos probably due to increased gas pressures that might wreck a semi-auto gas action, this may be true for other calibers so be careful.

They're the factory ammo of choice for me as well. I shoot the 140 gr BTSP LM in my .270 and my son shoots the 100 BTSP LM in his .243. Both are consistent as you could ever hope for from box to box.

It shot terribly out of my Browning 7 mag. I will never use it again.
