From my Son's diary:

June 5, 2005

0445 Rudely awakened by Dad...something about "coyotes to shoot."

0550 Get out of truck. Where? Who knows...

0620 Get my first "double" set of coyotes in our first stand.

0730 Back in the truck 'cause Dad "doesn't want to kill all of 'em."

1100 At Sportsman's Warehouse where the RMEF is holding two days worth of seminars and elk calling contests. I qualified for the finals today.

1200 Claim first price in the bugling contest of the Youth Division. I win a set of camos, a tanning kit, and a five-day semi-guided cow elk hunt on a private ranch in 5A of New Mexico.

1230 Take a nap...it is rough being a thirteen year old.

Coues:

Yes, the one and only Wayne Carlton. He MC'ed the two day event and, well, I left an even larger fan due to his natural hospitality and graciousness toward everyone (large and small) attending the event.

Bill: Trim the edges...but attach a lanyard so you can yank it out after inhaling.

The coolest part of the whole event was the "Pro" division performing for a minute each. SCARY how awesome they sound. BUT, as Mr. Carlton put it, "You don't want to sound like these guys in the woods...because you'll scare EVERY bull away." They sounded awesome.

I should mention, also, the "PeeWee" division (up to ten years old) was splendid to watch as well. Nothing will bring a bigger smile to your face than watching young children giving it all they have!

If an event like this happens into your neck of the woods, I highly recommend it. All manufacturers are present and they give seminar after seminar on calling techniques, equipment, preparation and setup for EVERYTHING you can hunt with a call. Truly a great time.

The only bad part to this? Now I have to buy a new rifle for Nick 'cause I don't believe his .22 magnum is going to do the trick.

Mom...are you reading this?
