How They Land??

When ever I find a shed I always wonder what the deer was doing at the moment he shed.Was he walking,running,feeding,etc.
Did they just fall off or did he hit something that caused them to drop?There's no way to tell,but you can figure out why he was in that area.
I also like to watch how they lay.There's a 50-50 chance the tines could be facing up or down.I would think better odds that the tines would be facing up.Over the years I think the majority of my sheds have been with the tines facing up.
This year though so far I've found almost as many with the tines facing down.I know they're easier to spot facing up,but we have no say in that.
How does the average shed you find land,tines facing up or down?

I'd say a majority are tines up, probably 75% or more and it does really help to spot them. A few of my larger heavier ones with long, heavy tines were found tines down. Sometimes I think if an antler were a really heavy one with lots of crap on it (the kind I seek but have never found) I think they'd be more likely to fall in a tines down position due to the extra ballast of the long heavy tines. Or, if they fall in snow, they may lay in just about any position until the snow melts all the way off the, found a spike once perfectly point down, stuck in the snow the way it fell from the deers head.

I like to contemplate the why and how the antler is where it is too. Kind of like the time taken to reflect on the harvest of an animal. You got me thinking, so I looked back at last years "as they lay" pics. I found 13 sides last year. One was a 19"main beam w/a small brow tine, and it was laying flat, can't really tell by the pic. 11 were tines up. One was tines down. Here is the pic of the side of four I found tines down. Looks like it landed over a rock to get it to sit that way. I would guess most are found tines up.

about 80% tines up.some beams up like resting on the G1 and base.I think a lot has do with the way the antler is balanced,either weight forward or backward.
There is nothing sweeter than seeing one tips up from a distance.The anticipation of what you're about to pick up is whats its all about.
