My uncle has been looking to buy some property where he and his family can go to and just relax. He was thinking about the big bear area. I kind of convinced him to buy a property where the kids can learn about the outdoors and about hunting with not so much traffic, since he is an avid hunter himself he thought it was a good idea. Can anyone with any knowledge about this give me some advice? Oh and the reason why I posted in the hog forum was because my uncle loves to hunt hogs.

P.S. He has about 1 to 1.5 million to spend (Don't ask, I am not rich, just a poor college kid)

Monroe Canyon Ranch

Pigs all over this area...And in addition - this canyon (and neighboring canyons) is the ONLY access to a remote part of LPNF ("The Rocks"/Reliz Canyon)) that is rumored to be a cournicopia of game. The landowners have it completely locked down, and meet any and all requests for access with both derisive laughter and open hostility.

All I ask for, as a reasonable finder's "fee", is tresspass rights. That's all I ask for.

That ranch sure looks good to me. 4 of us took 9 hogs in one morning off a ranch just a couple miles SW of Greenfield. They are definitely there. We also saw several nice bucks that same morning. I am very envious of your uncle to be in that position.

The other area I would look at is in the Parkfield area. Lots of hogs and quail, decent deer and the weather is mild - though it does get hot in the summer.

Squints Ranch was for sale at just under a cool million. It's up north of Lake Arrowhead. Orchards, lake, runway etc. Deer, quail, bear and turkey. No hogs though. They saved it from the last big fire, if you saw the guy on the local TV new with the dozer cutting a fire break that was BJ, the foreman up there.

I envy your uncle. You should introduce him to hunting PRONTO before he decides on what to buy!!!!!!!!!

Man, that is one SWEET lookin piece of property in the photo. And definitely needs to be purchased by someone more pro-hunting, don't ya think..

Hey Shot,

BoarTracks was just telling me about 900 acres there in (or near) Paso Robles that sounded pretty prime. Seems like he said the price was at or near $1000/acre, which puts it in your uncle's budget.

Contact Boar Tracks for more info.

And, as Rancho Loco said... all I ask for my small finder's fee... hunting access.

These are some acres by lake nacimiento. Check them out. I believe around the lake are some nice hog huntings and deer areas. One of my buddie owns a ranch out there and saids that there are alot of hogs on his ranch near by the lake. Check it out and let me know. Also you can do a search on the net for acres by lake nacimiento and lake san antonio. If you have ever been to these to places you should have already known that they have lots of hogs and deer inside the lake itself. Good luck. Also if your into water sports and fishing it can be a great investment. Perfect lake for jet skieing and fishing.

Oh no ya don't, that one's mine! Find yourself another ranch. By the way this reminds me that we should have a hunting real estate section on this site.

I've been looking at those same Jim Irving listing for 2 years. I wonder if he updates that thing.

Sorry to have given up your honey hole. I myself have been looking for areas like that too... but unfortunatly im just window shopping. Agian these spots are great for summer activities for swimming and great fishing. I've seen pigs, turkey, and some big bucks in these areas. Welps... I guess i'll go back to dreaming.

Hey Shot, The Big Bear area is a god outdoor area but the Zone is a volital zone. The past two years the Deer hunting has been limited to fire closure. The Turkey hunting is scares at best and bears pushed all around by fires. There are no pigs in the Big Bear Area or surrounding mountains. The Big draw for Big Bear is the Lake. Good fishing at times. But the big bear area is a high tourist area in summer and even bigger in fall winter with the ski resorts. If you want any other insights let me know. I know Big Bear to Crestline like the back of my hand. Another JHO member by the name of ggaff lives there. Hope that helped with the info.
