I live in the Temecula area, and am looking for someone that isn't stupid (won't accidently shoot me) to go hunting/scouting with. I've been in California for 3yrs now and don't know a anyone who has the same interest in hunting as myself. I'll hunt anything, traveling for a hunt isn't out of the question, or joining a hunting club together also. I'm just desperate to get out there. My name is Josh, and my cell number is (419)566-8085:toast-yellow:

Boy do I ever understand

Just a suggestion, complete your profile so others can learn a bit about you. Things like age play a big part in determining whether someone wants to contact you or not.

Hi JW,
At the risk of sounding like a broken record a surepath to finding a hunting buddy is to go to Big 5 ,Turners or another DFG lic seller and apply for duck ressies. Being that you live in SD County Wister is closer to you put in for Saturday and you can put in for Sunday and pray for a low number so you can get a good blind. If you get a a Saturday resie or a low numbered resie let us know on the waterfowl forum. Sean English likes to hunt in the Imperial Valley he might be looking for a partner.

Now to Elk hunting. Elk are not the most expensive big game animal to hunt in North America but its still up there pricewise. A guided hunt can be 4k or so. A tresspass only hunt on private land would be less but I havent researched that one. A public land DIY hunt would cost over a grand by the time you add a non ressie lic plus elk tag not to mention say .60 cents a mile with a pick-up to drive to your hunting spot. A partner could at least defray the travel cost.

Has far has I know the only state that has OTC tags for non resies is Colo which has archery only tags with a 20% sucess rate. So the bowhunting forum would be a good place to check out. If your in great shape and can hike away from the roads you of course have a better chance of scoring. Az has big bulls I wasn't able to determine which zones have the best sucess rate but I wrote to AZ G&F so hopefully I will find out. Living in SD County you could scout AZ easier then the other staes and when you do draw a tag you would then stand a better chance of scoring. I might be intersted in scouting AZ. There are 350 CA elk tags vs 26k applicants so other staes look good.

Good Luck,
Leftyhunter
