My brother and I are going up to hunt on his in-laws property in a few weeks. I do have my license, but he doesn't. Is it illegal for him to hunt even though it's on family land and we have their permission? Also, do I need a pig tag in order to take a pig (on that same property)? Thanks!

I believe the answer is yes on both counts. Need license AND tag(s).

That would be an affirmative, especially here in CA...

very much so.

There was a story here in the foothills a while back in which a guy was fishing on HIS pond on HIS property that HE stocked and fish and game cited him for not having a fishing license. Welcome to the Republik of Kalifornia

Plus game wardens do have the authority to come onto your private property and ticket you.

After 10 responses I have to jump in with "take a hunter's safety course".

And take Cheney and Bobby Knight with you to the class.

Unless you are hunting a high fenced operation.[/b]
Call me a noob, but what exactly is a "high fenced operation"? Are there any in sothern CA? I know of some ranches in TX where you can hunt exotics imported from Africa. Similar?

Don't they need a court order to come onto your private property?
Any blood sucker lawyers here?

All they need is a reasonable cause to think something is going on, just like any other LEO.

Probably a handful of lawyers on here (20K members... there's bound to be a few), but if you're looking for bloodsuckers you'll probably need to go here.

I'm aware that just a reasonable cause is not enough to come into a private property, land home or even a motorhome here in Ca, Am I wrong?

There is a high fence ranch just south of Salinas. Known as JCA, it is home to a number of "exotics" and wild hogs. There is a 8 foot tall fence around the entire property and you do not need a hunting license to hunt there.

as far as i have always understood a game warden has the most ultimate rank and power in the chain of command in the law enforcement agency, which means they can access your property at any time for any reason with no notice or warrants and you may find them in your freezer seeing whats on your future dinner menue when you show up home after work one day, even if it's to just say hi! what do ya think of that?........tra

7mag,

First, yes, you're wrong. Reasonable cause IS enough for a game warden to come onto private property. This can be based on something they've witnessed (such as apparent waterfowling violations, "unusual" activity), or on something reported to them. If they think the laws are being broken on a property, they can come in the gate.

As far as "just joking", so was I. I thought the URL was funny as hell. Besides, some of my best friends are bloodsucking lawyers.

It's not always easy to see someone grin on the Internet, is it?
